The Wine 5.2 development release is out

By -

Alexandre Julliard announced today the bottle for Wine 5.2 has been opened following another two weeks of everyone hacking away at the code.

Headlining this release of the compatibility layer are these features:

  • More compatible codepage mapping tables.
  • Support for using the null display driver as a real driver.
  • Better UTF-8 support in the Resource and Message Compilers.
  • Fixes for using ucrtbase as C runtime.

They also noted 22 bugs that were found to be solved, some new and some fixed in previous releases of Wine. As usual, it takes a while to get thousands of applications and games re-tested. Looking over the logs it seems issues were fixed for The Sims 2 demo, ARMA: Armed Assault, Lineage 2, Spintires: MudRunner, plus multiple games being installed via Steam in Wine had an issue fixed with it failing to install the DirectX runtime prerequisite and get locked up plus other misc bug fixes.

You can see the release announcement here.

As a reminder, if you want an easy way to handle Wine for various games Lutris can take care of it all quite nicely and certainly makes using plain Wine a bit more pleasant.

So this wine version continues to show a persistent problem with Mass Effect Andromeda. It basically means that mouse input no longer works. I've found that there's nothing I can do about it aside from downgrade wine, and there's almost no information about this bug out in the world either. I've had no luck whatsoever doing anything about it, so I'd love to know: Does anyone else have any information about this issue?
I'm on Manjaro Stable, running wine-5.2 staging.

Having a similar problem with Warframe when running Proton-5.1-GE-1, mouse input is completely wonky: random mouse acceleration and mouse clicks not properly working (mostly noticeable when you continue shooting after clicking). This is with swaywm and XWayland though. Tried to find something on the issue but couldn't. Didn't have a lot of time to test plain X11 and different 5.x versions so I just downgraded to Proton-4.21-GE-1 for a short gaming session.

That's unfortunate, this looks like a pretty serious deal. Is anyone out there in the wine dev world aware of this?

I wonder if, someday, they gonna fix the "press space to continue" bug from Bioshock 2 Remastered.

Have you tried disabling E-Sync? I tried the game when it came out on GOG and that did the trick for me. Also try to launch the game with -nointro command. See here for Ref: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/482
