Another new release of Steam Play's Proton software is up and while small in number of changes, it's quite a mighty update overall.
Looking to get started with Steam Play on Linux? Have no idea what it is? Be sure to check our previous beginners guide for some tips and explanations. We'll be keeping that up to date with any major changes.
Here's the major changes for Proton 5.0-4 out now:
- EA's Origin launcher is now functional and Jedi Fallen Order is playable.
- Fix crash on launch in Grand Theft Auto V Online.
- Fix Denuvo DRM failures in Just Cause 3 and Batman Arkham Knight.
- Update DXVK to v1.5.5.
- Improve performance when emulating display resolution changes.
- Improve performance in Monster Hunter World.
- Fix mouse cursor issue on focus loss in Ryse: Son of Rome.
- Improve game launch times.
You can see the changelog here.
If you don't see it turn up yet in your Steam client, you can try restarting as that usually gets it to appear and make sure you have Proton 5.0 installed in the Tools section of Steam.
As a reminder: we also had a statement recently from Valve, to clarify that Proton is correctly tracking Linux sales if you missed that.

DXVK 1.5.5 is also fixing the new Rocket League DX11 Client for Nvidia drivers. See:

@Liam: sorry, badly formulated question: Jedi Fallen Order is not multiplayer and with their anticheat?
because the origin launcher and Jedi Fallen Order was reported multiple time as playable on protondb.
So I was wondering how this sentence can be interpreted "EA's Origin launcher is now functional and Jedi Fallen Order is playable" as this statement is not new and i don't figure out precisely what they improved in this step ^^
So I will be grateful about more information if anyone in the community has some.

I play Fallen Order with Proton Ge. But now you can play it with Valves Proton Version.

Now, they shouldn't have to. ProtonDB changed their rating system, and it's a lot more confusing for people to look at - I'm not a fan, too messy now.

I did not expect the Origin launcher to work via Steam. Wow. The timing is great since I just mentioned to a friend last week how it would be fun to play the Dead Space games somehow. I wonder if I can now.

At least, the grappling hook now works in Batman Arkham Knight. I will probably try a new run to test the other reported bugs, now that the game seems playable.
Edit: Saving game is now working on JC3.

Ooooo! JC3 is playable now? That was the last game I played on my Windows Box, back when it was first released. I stopped playing pretty early on simply because I got tired of dealing with Windows. It might be time to install JC3 on my Linux box and continue the mayem!

DS1 and DS2 does not require Origin and have worked fine in Proton since the 3.x days, it's only DS3 that is Origin-exclusive.
Any one having any idea how to go about installing Origin in steam? Are one to install it as an external 3d party game and then just launch it and proton will then run on all games installed via Origin or must the game be one of the steam games that comes with Origin?

You could try Lutris which has an installer for Dead Space 3.
Although to be honest, with all of the games to choose from, I wouldn't bother spending my money on Origin on a game that may or may not work.

Can anyone else test Tomb Raider Legends, Anniversary and Underworld with a high DPI mouse? I'm getting bizarre CPU spikes whenever I move the mouse around with my G300s mouse and it simply doesn't happen with a controller or a generic wireless mouse.
It's been a problem for a while now, but it was mitigated in the last release but seems to have relapsed here.

I confirm that, via PROTON 5.0-4, Borderlands: The Pre-sequel with UHD textures pack installed doesn't crash anymore, but only if you use a dxvk.conf file with this line
d3d9.evictManagedOnUnlock = True

It was listed in the fixed issues :
"Fix mouse cursor issue on focus loss in Ryse: Son of Rome."
You are right, I also don't remember having a issues with it before either.
