Got the need for speed? Humble Bundle are doing another of their fancy bundles and this time the focus is on racing games with the Humble Just Drive Bundle.
On the Linux side, in terms of numbers it's not a great turnout. Sadly, we just don't have many of the bigger racers supported. I'll note how each game seems to run on Steam Play Proton too, if you want a simple guide for Steam Play Proton—look here.
If you pay £1 or more you get (none support Linux here):
- WRC 7 FIA World Rally Championship - Mixed results on Steam Play - See ProtonDB.
- MXGP - The Official Motocross Videogame - Works on Steam Play.
- MotoGP15 - Mixed results on Steam Play - See ProtonDB.
However, things get better in the second tier where you need to beat the average payment as it includes:
- Road Redemption - Linux supported!
- DiRT 4 - Linux supported!
- Project CARS (+Limited Edition Upgrade) - Works with Steam Play Proton.
The biggest tier at £10 or more also has no games that support Linux:
- NASCAR Heat 4 - Works with Steam Play.
- Project CARS 2 (+Japanese Cars Bonus Pack) - Works with Steam Play.
- Assetto Corsa (+ some DLC) - Works with Steam Play but needs tinkering - see ProtonDB.
If you're a serious racing game enthusiast, this is a bundle for you. If you don't currently own the two games in it that actually support Linux with Road Redemption and DiRT 4, that's still an awesome deal just for those two. Otherwise, it's a mixed bag with Steam Play Proton as noted.
You can pick up the Humble Just Drive Bundle here if any of that does interest you.
Humble also just launched the Festival of Speed sale, with a ton of other racing games discounted.
It runs great via Proton, and i wonder how it compares with Dirt, if it does.
Road Redemption, i bought it several times over the years, refunded each time.
I expected it to grow some depth, but it’s way too arcadish-simplistic to be fun more than a couple of races.
Also full of glitch and weird physics behavior.
Last time i tried it was for testing the DLC with the not-Captain-America shield guy, and again it was fun but too shallow to think about playing more than a few hours.
But I couldn't resist to this bundle, I want to play Road redemption, MotoGP and Dirt4, and I'm curious about WRC.
So I get the second tier.
They should really be calling this bundle the Instant Race Sim Collection. What a bargain.
