Finally, Valve are looking to update their updates and news feed for the many tens of thousands of games on Steam with a brand new Steam Labs experiment.
Steam Labs is the special section of Steam, where Valve collaborate with the community and pull in outside developers to make new features. It's a great idea and we've already seen some cool stuff from it like the new filters in the Steam Search.
This new experiment "Steam Labs Experiment 009: The News Hub" is live and you can see it here:
Discover all of the cool events, news, and activities happening in your games in one place with the new Steam News Hub! Whether you're at work, on the bus, or playing at home, you can now browse a personalized hub to easily find the updates, announcements, and events from the games you play and games you are interested in. Plus, learn about upcoming events with options to get email or mobile reminders so you can jump right in when the event is live.
Compared with the current News and Updates section on the Steam home page which is incredibly basic, it's a dramatic improvement. Once you have a lot of games owned, it's still going to be quite difficult to manage but still a welcome improvement nonetheless. To help with that, you can mute games from it entirely and adjust what types of events you wish to see.
More will be coming to it, as Valve stated "we plan to add more options to personalize your News Hub, additional sources for news, and a new overview page to give you a quicker snapshot of the most relevant events for you".
Hope they plan to replace the annoying news section from the home page completely with it.There's a news section on the home page? I guess what's the home page in your mind?
