Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has been formally announced by Ubisoft, and it's confirmed to be coming to Stadia so you will be able to stream it on Linux at release. For those of you hoping to grab it on Steam to play with Steam Play Proton, you're in for some disappointment there as it's going to the Epic Games Store instead. At least with Stadia, there's still a way to play right away.

I'm a huge fan of the setting! I somewhat recently blitzed through the Vikings TV series and so this news has me personally quite pumped-up and excited. After playing quite a lot of Assassins Creed Odyssey on Stadia, which works impressively well, hopefully this will too. It's launching "Holiday 2020"
As a reminder, the Stadia game streaming service is now open to anyone in the supported countries (14 total currently). You also get two months free Stadia Pro which comes with multiple games - more on that here.

I wish that I could say that this annoyed me, but I wasn't gonna buy this one either. [checking] Oh, I do have Far Cry5. There must have been a sale. Assassin's Creed 3 was the last time Ubi will get my money for an Assassin's Creed title. The concept is played out, and 3 was an awful convoluted slog which should have been neatly streamlined. Far Cry 4 was a generic rehash of Far Cry3, and I honestly wasn't even sure I had FC5 on my Steam account until just now.
Bottom line, Ubisoft went from crap studio to pretty damn good right around the the first PoP:Sands of Time. Yep, all the way back then. Ubi was great up until recent years, and then it's like they caught the woke brain virus but just aren't brave enough to go down in flames like everyone else with that brain disease, so instead they've gone as generic as possible and it shows.
"Oh, wait, Vikings TV show is trendy now? Let's use it as setting for AC." Can't wait to have to pick out furniture for my viking tent or go collect fifty skull goblets for a new outfit because this is Assassin's Creed. What were you expecting, to stalk and assassinate people?

It's not like there aren't tons of interesting historical settings where assassins would fit just fine and you could call it "Assassin's Creed" and more or less mean it. You got your original Middle East Hashishin. The glory that was Rome (or shadows behind same); the political mazes of Byzantium. Imperial China. Plausibly the ancient Persian empire. Anywhere urban and sophisticated. Plenty of places you could do franchise entries with actual assassins. Is it just me or is "Assassin's Creed" kind of an odd name for a game about Vikings?
It's the established brand name they slap on top of historical period dramas that probably would fare better without any of the convoluted & incoherent (beyond redemption) 'lore' and backstory that comes trailing behind that name.
I really can't fathom why they think the game wouldn't sell as well without the AC name attached to it; what a bizarre place to look for 'safety'.
Viking England, not so much.
Since the start, though, their intention has been to make games about dicking around in the open world first, and infiltration/assassination second -- otherwise the stealth mechanics wouldn't have been left so clunky. So the choice of setting was never really determined by thematic & gameplay considerations (let alone concern with a coherent over-arching story).
-- and it doesn't seem like they have a real commitment to the lore/story either; so *that* can't be why they stick to the AC brand. Again, I think the only reason why they insist on it, is that they think franchise sequels are a safer bet, compared to one-off adventures.
... which is strange, again, because they have the Far Cry series (which I haven't played at all) which seems to be doing very well; and that's a brand name/franchise with no forced continuity between the games. The 'historical' action/adventure titles could have followed that model as well.
original Middle East Hashishin
They did that one with AC Origins.
That one takes place in Ancient Egypt, the Hashishins existed in the Medieval periodoriginal Middle East Hashishin
They did that one with AC Origins.

They did cover this period in the first games AC1-AC2(plus standalone expansions) and they're also the most coherent games story wise. It just gets messy after that.
Incidentally, those axes the guy is implausibly double-wielding instead of using a shield like a sensible Viking, are weird looking and probably less effective than the narrow-bladed axes people really used which would penetrate armour far better. At least he doesn't have a horned helmet. Sure, he's a moron for going bareheaded, but let's say he's berserk.
That scale mail that acted more like full plate armor on the Saxon warrior seemed also quite implausible to me

You should check out The Last Kingdom, if you haven't already. I felt Vikings significantly dropped in quality after the first couple of Seasons.

Assassins creed 1,2,brotherhood,revelations,ac3,ac4,rogue,unity,syndicate,origin,oddessey,liberation,china,india and now with vahalla its 15 and yet still not one single game set in warring states period in japan home of the Ninja.
yet still not one single game set in warring states period in japan home of the Ninja.
That's been a fan request since time immemorial; hopefully the next one will be set in Japan & *they'll end the series*.

They did when i dont want to spoil it if people have not seen it but if the end of battle of mercia i have seen it all but the season ending was not great.

I dont its ever going to end as really its one of ubi most profitable games I do not think watchdogs turned out to be the money spinner they were hoping for wildlands and the sequel with the guy from walking dead bombed apparently. I know the division was popular for a time. There has been no splinter cell game in ages. Really Assassins creed is all they have.
