Rogue Legacy 2 from Cellar Door Games is a "genealogical" rogue-lite following the popular gameplay idea from the original, where you die and pass on your skills and continue to grow through new characters.

While there's currently no platforms mentioned for release since they've only just begun teasing it (there's not even a trailer yet), it's likely it will come to Linux since both the original Rogue Legacy and Cellar Door's other title Full Metal Furies were on Linux and they were ported by Ethan Lee.

Check out some screenshots (click for the gallery):

Rogue Legacy 2 is a genealogical Rogue-LITE. That means it has all the trappings of a typical rogue-like (randomized runs, changing characters, and more), but with persistent upgrades, and persistent dead heirs. In this game, the grind is optional. Play well and you can dive deeper into the depths of the ever-changing world. Or don't! Who cares! With hardcore platforming mixed with a deep RPG system, everyone can win eventually.

You can wishlist/follow Rogue Legacy 2 on Steam.

I loved how all the character names were on a TXT file which one could edit. I put the name of all the family members I could think of and had loads of fun playing with a digital version of my wife that suffered from IBS.

I loved this game, despite being really sceptical about it for some reason. I think it was the idea that you had to die as a parent, so that your child could take your place after they'd become parents... it sounded really depressing and negative!

But it was done with such humour and skill, it was fantastic, as was the gameplay and the progression.

If it's as good as the first one, definitely worth picking up. Spent many, many hours playing Rogue Legacy and is one of the few non-linear games I've played to the end.

Ohhh, they missed the opportunity to call it "Rogue Legacy Legacy", or "The Legacy of Rogue Legacy". :(
