At least the setting is honest, you're totally robbing the dungeons in Burning Knight and then attempting to flee.

Burning Knight is an action-packed procedurally generated roguelike, with fast-paced action and plenty of exploration across various floors in the Burning Knight's castle that you're stealing goods from. It can turn into a bullet-hell in some rooms, there's hundreds of items to find and they can be combined to "build your very own game-breaking combos" and it does sound awesome.

The developer, Rexcellent Games, just announced on Twitter yesterday that it's now actually complete. They're waiting on Valve's approval, and it looks like it will hopefully release next month. SteamDB captured the date changing to June 5 but that might be a temporary date. Update: June 5 is correct.

You can see some footage we took of the original demo below, to give you a small slice of what to expect from the much bigger full game:

Some of what to expect from it includes:

  • Endless adventures with procedurally generated dungeons
  • Unlock and explore 270+ unique items along the way, that open up insane playstyles
  • 28 unlockable hats!
  • We've been told that our Original Soundtrack is really good
  • 5 challenging areas to discover.
  • 14 unlockable NPC's and more!
  • Supports keyboard, mouse, and controllers
  • Show of to your friends by filling the Hall of Achievements (the game includes more than 50 of them!)
  • Play either as a ranger, melee tank, mage, or anything in between!

After playing the likes of Nuclear Throne, Enter the Gungeon, Binding of Isaac and plenty more, I'm always itching to see what will become the next great action-roguelike dungeon crawling experience. From my time spent in the demo, Burning Knight has all the makings of a hit and it's definitely a huge amount of fun. The action was intense, the sound and lighting are great and the enemies are varied and quite challenging to deal with. I also like the slight comedic side to it too.

This is one you need to put high up on your watch-list. You can wishlist/follow on Steam and try the older demo on itch.io that's still up at the moment. Note: it was also developed on Linux!

Want to see something cool? The developer made a video that visualizes development and commits across a year and it's really slick.

That's very cool. I wonder what happened on October 13th! :)
