Game developer Boneloaf has announced plans to self-publish Gang Beasts, as they split off from Double Fine Presents since it's winding down. This is as a result of Double Fine becoming part of Microsoft back in 2019, it didn't really make sense for Double Fine to continue to publish other games.

In an official post amusingly titled 'Boneloaf take Double Fine to a fancy restaurant so they won't make a big scene', they make it clear that it's a positive situation as Double Fine have given them great support but going forwards they will be taking on all control of Gang Beasts publishing.

As for what comes next? They're currently testing the next release, 1.14, which comes with an upgrade to the Unity 2019.3 game engine plus "a modified version of the wheel stage with support for online game modes and a series of optimisations and fixes for UI, audio, costumes, gameplay, and achievements".

They said a Steam build will arrive in Beta within a month and they're working on more new stages and costumes with more info about all that on the way.

You can buy Gang Beasts on Steam.

Still recommend it.

I once pulled my laptop out when a birthday party (around 6-7 people maybe) was calming down too much and attached it to the handily available projector, speakers and some gamepads. And the party got a huge surge of hilarity. We also tried it with random music playing in background, sometimes to nice comic effect.

Is it worth getting if I already have Human Fall Flat?

It's a very different kind of game. Human Fall Flat is a free-form puzzle game, while this is a party brawler. Also, Human Fall Flat is not supported on Linux.

Is it worth getting if I already have Human Fall Flat?

Depends on:
1. How much money is worth to you.
2. Who your friends are.
I think Human Fall Flat fits some people better, since it has clear goals and paths. Whilst the experience of Gang Beasts can depend on the people youre playing with and the social atmosphere. There is perhaps more exploration of mechanics - what you can and cannot do. Another game with very similar physics is A Gummy's Life with maybe more boring levels. This one is basically the same as Gang Beasts, but I'm really bad at game reviews. Also my play time is very low.
