Michał Brzozowski, developer of long-running roguelike KeeperRL, announced the release of the Alpha 30 and it's big with some seriously fun sounding features. KeeperRL became quite popular due to the way it merges together roguelike, base-building and a mix of strategy and RPG mechanics all into one roof.

One of the biggest additions in Alpha 30 are the Gnomes, a new playable faction. They're not powerful directly in combat but they are a crafty bunch. You can make mechanical contraptions to dominate dungeons and battlefields with a new automaton crafting mechanic.

What's the fun of being a dungeon master without enjoying how good your minions have been? Alpha 30 also helps with that, making each minion feel a bit more unique and less like meat for the grinder. It tracks their individual kills and gives them special titles if they kill tribe leaders. Combat was expanded too if they have multiple weapons, creature can now use them during the same turn which the developer said "makes certain creatures, like werewolves and vampires, much more interesting and powerful".

I'm more excited about the new enemy retirement system. If enemies kill you, they might retire with your base and use it as their own lair in a future game. Sounds quite hilarious. Tons more was added like a new "Hell" hidden dungeon for the late game, the "less evil" Keeper has new minions like angels and clerics, multiple mods can be loaded at the same time now and a massive amount more.

KeeperRL is available to buy from Humble Store, itch.io and Steam. You can also find the source code on GitHub.

"When creating KeeperRL in 2013, I was inspired by roguelikes like Nethack and ADOM. After discovering Dwarf Fortress, I experimented with adding a real-time dungeon building mode – which turned out to be a total game changer. This is basically the origin story of KeeperRL. Since hitting Steam Early Access in 2015, development has progressed steadily – thanks to the ongoing support from existing players. Their feedback allowed me to massively improve all aspects of the game and add modding support, which started an explosion of free content via Steam Workshop. I’m confident that the community will find much to enjoy in Alpha 30!"—Michał Brzozowski (Designer/Programmer & Founder, Electric Succubi).

For a moment there i thoguht they could steal your lair without you being defeated.
This sounds like adventure mode in Dwarf Fortress where you can stumble upon your older fortresses.
