The KDE team have today announced the release of the Plasma 5.19 desktop environment with a 'Polished Plasma' codename.
With a firm focus on making the whole of the Plasma desktop more consistent, they've gone through many elements of the Plasma UI to attempt to unify the designs of widgets and desktop elements on top of giving more control and configuration options. Some of the updates include:
- Info Center saw a redesign to be consistent with system settings, it also has a new feature to give you a readout on your graphics hardware.
- KWin Window Manage now supports subsurface clipping, which should reduce flickering in many apps. Wayland support was improved as well to include working screen rotation for tablets and convertible laptops.
- The Discover software centre has improved the Flatpak package format support, to allow removing Flatpak repositories in an easier way. Discover also now shows the app version.

I've been using KDE Plasma for quite some time now and for the most part it's been a great experience. Ideal for users who want a lot of customization options available out of the box, as opposed to GNOME being quite simple in comparison but it comes down to personal preference as always. Great to see big updates like this focus on a good out of the box user experience too.

Quoting: mylkai wish they would improve the system monitorPlasma's Task manager(KSysGuard) is very flexible. You can add your own graphs and tables based on sensors with simple drag and dropping - I have an extra page for fan speeds and temperatures

In fact, I started out with KDe, in '99, with SuSE.
KDe has always been remarkable. Ubuntu lost me when they stopped caring about Kubuntu. Mint lost me when they stopped offering KDe Spin.
Arch Linux has me.
QuoteIf you use Wayland, you will also appreciate the new option that lets you configure the mouse and touchpad scroll speed.Okay, now do that with X11, which is still the default for most. That setting has been missing for a while now (on my end at least) and it screws up scrolling in games.

Quoting: vipor29yea game performance is alot better in kde compared to gnome.i was getting alot of stuttering but when i moved to kde it was gone.
yup, confirmed. kwin was and is the best window manager. however, when Wastland 2 came out 2015 i think, i had to use compiz instead of kwin. terrible times. kwin is omnipotent now

Quoting: GuestJust got the update on Arch Linux. As a long time Plasma Wayland user this is one of the most important releases for me as finally the subsurface clipping and the Firefox Wayland copy & paste issues have been fixed :-)
Plus there are many nice new features!
AFAIK, that is for Plasma 5.20 and will not be backported, since the patches to correct this are numerous.
Quoting: vipor29does anyone know how to update manjaro to kde 5.19it's in the unstable repo
