After open sourcing the original Soldat, Transhuman Design are now pushing forwards with their next generation side-scrolling action game Soldat 2.

Soldat 2 actually already has a demo available, which you can play right now on Steam. However that is currently single-player only to give you a taste of what to expect from the bigger game. Soldat 2 is due to enter Early Access in Q2 this year and now they need more help testing. You can now sign-up for access to multiplayer testing, by doing so you will also be signing up to their mailing list. Keys will be sent out when they come in and it's all online, it's not instant.

Check out early footage of the demo:

As for what they're aiming to have during the initial Early Access release, it looks like quite a lot including:

  • Online multiplayer (with dedicated servers)
  • Procedurally generated and designed levels
  • Famous from its predecessor physics-based movement
  • Low-poly style for easy mod creation
  • Realistic weapons and military equipment
  • Ragdoll physics and over the top violence
  • Custom battle sandbox

While it's made by "Transhuman Design", Soldat 2 is mostly by a single developer, Michal 'MM' Marcinkowski who was responsible for Soldat, King Arthur's Gold and producer of Butcher. I'm very keen to see how Soldat 2 turns out, especially with it getting map and mod creation support.

You can follow Soldat 2 on Steam.

Awesome.

The OG soldat was a high-intensity multiplayer shooter. It felt like 2D counterstrike and had somewhat realistic physics and damage. And you could play it on a pentium 2 from 1998, which for me and my friends was a huge plus.
