After recently dealing with an influx of game-ruining racists bots in Team Fortress 2, the battle continues.

Earlier this month, Valve finally pushed out an update to deal with some of the issues and slow down the bot attack somewhat by limiting what accounts can do. They mentioned at the time that work was ongoing to deal with new accounts being made for abusive purposes.

The problem was, as always, bot creators found ways around the limitations by simply and repeatedly changing their name or team name. So Valve has once again stepped in to deal with that side of it to prevent accounts that have chat disabled to no longer be able to update their name while connected. They also added rate limit checks for in-game text chat, and fixed being able to update team name while in matchmaking games.

More needs to be done though, as there's plenty of other issues ongoing. Looking over Reddit, it seems there's still plenty of voice-chat abuse and bots being used to cause heavy lag on servers too. I won't link to any directly because it's all terrible stuff but you can find it easily with a simple search.

So the battle is far from over yet. It's a shame there's people out there who do things like this, what sad lives. In the end, the only people that really suffer are the legitimate players.

I don't know about other countries laws, but that behavior is considered crime here in Brazil, and can let you quite acquainted with our terrible prison system. Since Valve certainly knows were those "people" are from, they should let local authorities take a look at the case.

Yeah, I've been staying away and playing other games ever since the cheats and bots ruined it. Kinda miss the game, though. :/

Mankind. A despicable race.
Quoting from The IT Crowd: "People. What a bunch of bastards."
