The upcoming Steam Game Festival Summer Edition has been delayed, as confirmed in a Valve email today.
Originally due from June 9 - 15, they've now moved it to June 16 - 22. No reason was given and their email on it was extremely brief. It's not really unexpected though at this point, practically every other major event has also been postponed. Why? This is all in response to the ongoing situation in America right now, after the death of George Floyd who died at hands of Minneapolis police officers.
Since it happened, there's been all kinds of protests and riots and this has led to a lot of things being cancelled and delayed. We've seen a ton of companies speak out against racism, and in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. Across places like Twitter, many companies have been posting statements and pledging to do more like Humble Bundle, Devolver Digital, Games Done Quick and the list goes on with tons of publishers, game stores and more (Valve have not said anything).
As for the upcoming Steam Game Festival, these are the games we know of that will have a Linux demo (all have been confirmed to us at GOL):
- ASYLUM
- Carrion
- DRAG
- Elteria Adventures
- Nine Noir Lives
- Sarawak
- Something Ate My Alien
- Spiritfarer
- Starmancer
- The Long Gate
- The Zone: Stalker Stories
- Vagrus - The Riven Realms
The article mentions what it does, to explain a brief bit of reasoning why it is delayed to give the bigger picture. The article is not us "being political", it's the facts of it.
