What have you been playing recently and what's your pick this weekend?

It's coming to the end of another week on planet Earth. More games have released, tons have seen updates and it's time for another chit-chat.

You might laugh but a lot of my time has been spent playing Troll Patrol, I've actually found myself somewhat hooked by it. The simplicity of match-3 gameplay with a dash of RPG elements makes for quite a fun brew. I'm genuinely surprised by how fun it actually is and it seems the PC release has gone firmly under the radar with only one single user review on Steam.

I will also fully admit that Planetary Annihilation: TITANS has pulled me back in too. While the addition of a Unicorn commander was a little amusing, I found myself wanting to go back and throw an entire moon at someone. Such a huge RTS, the scale of it is crazy and it's really wonderful to see the newer developer (Planetary Annihilation Inc took over from Uber Ent) keep polishing the experience.

There's also a fair bit of Titanfall 2. I can't tell you how happy I am that it works so well on Linux with Steam Play Proton. It seems the Steam release has given the 2016 shooter an entirely new life, who would have thought? It's repeatedly breaking new player records too with over 11 thousand online in it right now.

I downloaded Diaspora: Shattered Armistice long ago and left it forgotten in a folder. Now I'll try to play it at last, compiling the engine (FS2 Open) was easy on Fedora 31, but the launcher was a pain.

As a result of the new Steam Sale, and that extra discount if you spend enough offer, I've been trying out demos. Space Robinson demo is still accessible: steam://install/1144320 or here https://steamdb.info/app/1144320/. I like it, but as yet cannot get far enough "in the demo" let alone progress deep into the game. (I'm one of these people who doesn't like gamepads, and tries to play twin-stick shooters with keyboard and mouse, and naturally it is a little too much for some titles.)

Mars Power Industries First Job is a demo/free game for their Deluxe version. I've been giving that a go, too.

I've been checking out a lot of game play footage to see if I like various titles, e.g. Stranded Deep, Dying Light: Hellraid dlc, The Enchanted Cave 2, and others.

This week I wrapped up the class storylines for Sith Inquisitor and Jedi Consular on SW:TOR. I'm quite impressed with how well that game runs now. I'm still subscribed for another week or two, then it's time to try some other games. My Steam wish list just got half as long thanks to heavy discounts.

I got back in Portal 2 again. Such a lovely game. I just bought another copy during the sale so we can finally do the coop that I have yet to play.

after several attempts on getting Assasins creed Black Flag working (black screen) I went for playing Witcher 2. still has to finish that game.

Dungeons 3 - Just started, and it's as wacky as Dungeon Keeper, but doesn't have the same level of charm. The controls are clunky and switching between dungeon and overworld maps is jarring. Still, I'm enjoying it so far, but I'm finding myself being drawn back to War for the Overworld.

Northgard - The missions are getting a little repetitive now. Still enjoying it, but I'm having to get in the mood to play it. I've found that if I stop mid-level, and come back to it later, I lose all the momentum I'd been building up and I don't fare so well, so I try to get each mission done in one sitting. Managing scouts is still a pain in the arse.

I don't generally buy games to play on Proton, but I made an exception for Okami. I don't think there was a chance of it ever being ported. Proton runs it quite well.

I think it is one of my favourite games from the past and I am sad that the team didn't make any more in the genre (DS spinoff ignored). I also own it on PS2 and PS3, but playing with the Steam controller is very nice.

Decided to continue playing "Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark" after purchasing its DLC ("Missions and Monsters"), but will probably spend some time on "Alwa's Legacy", "X4: Foundations" or "Kerbal Space Program" (the usual crime suspects for embezzling my time ).
