Ready to spend another thousand hours building spaceships and now chasing comets? Take charge of the Kerbal Space Program once again in the latest free upgrade.
This is quite a significant update to KSP too, bringing in their European Space Agency (ESA) content including the ESA space-suit texture, new parts and variants, and two of their most iconic and groundbreaking missions into the game. So now you will be able to build the Ariane 5, visit comets and more.
The new free missions are:
- BepiColombo - an ongoing joint mission between ESA and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), launched on an Ariane 5 rocket in 2018 and currently en route to Mercury. In KSP it will task you with reaching Moho (KSP's equivalent of Mercury) and landing successfully. There's also an additional shorter variation of this mission included, which skips ahead to put you on an intercept course.
- Rosetta - paying tribute to ESA's iconic mission to Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko.
To be clear, comets aren't just available for the new mission. Squad mentioned that in order to make it possible, comets are now just part of the whole game and roam across the Kerbal Solar System and will appear in all game modes with new career mode contracts included for them. Trying to get a surface sample from a comet? Sounds fun.
Additionally this update also revamped some graphics for Jool and Laythe, there's numerous performance improvements across different parts of the sim and plenty of bug fixes.

As someone with an aerospace engineering background, I should really put more time into this game than I have. Ok, where to fit this in the todo list.
Whoa, you will probably love the Ferram Aerospace Research mod (the author is no longer active, but there's a fork for recent KSP versions).

I have looked at mods to make things a bit more realistic in term of size and physics. I was hoping to find a mod that would replace the two body physics implementation with a three body one so that all those stable orbits wouldn't be so stable any more. But since it would still be "Kerbal physics", it seemed like a good idea to first see how that worked.
