A Short Hike is a game that doesn't need much of an introduction, or does it? Developer adamgryu crafted a ridiculously relaxing little adventure and it's still being updated.

It's all about the journey here. Hike, climb, and soar through the peaceful mountainside landscapes of Hawk Peak Provincial Park as you make your way to the summit. How about a little boating to go with it? It might be nothing to do with hiking but with plenty of water around, it's a fun addition to travel around.

Not played it before? You're missing out on a seriously wholesome experience. You get to explore however and wherever you like. There's actually a lot to explore and plenty of hidden secrets to find. No exact set goals either, while there are a few little quests you can pick up it's all pretty chilled out. Some areas do need you to collect Golden Feathers though, as these allow you to fly and climb higher. There's also a wonderful original soundtrack by Mark Sparling, with soothing tunes that expand with your progress.

With this new update out now, if you need a hint on where to find the boat rental shop:

Spoiler, click me
Find the big boat attached to the island, across from that is another island that you need to explore. You can find it by the trail in the water, follow the shallow water (light blue) that makes a path in the water to it. It costs 100 coins to rent it.

A Short Hike is available on itch.io, GOG and Steam.

Oh nice no lag between the Steam update and the Itch version as the Itch version all ready has a patch out. Pleasantly surprised by this as it's not uncommon for Itch versions of some games to not get update patches for a while after the update ships on Steam.

I very nearly resurrected my 2018 mini-series "Play It Now" for this title last year. But Liam had already written three articles on it, including a short review, so I dropped the idea. But yeah, in short, go play this now. It's fun, uplifing, engaging and great value.

I often get bored with games that look like they might be walking simulators, but this game had plenty to keep me exploring and having fun. They got the pacing just right.

I picked this up during the recent 'Tiny Teams Festival.' I haven't played it much yet, but it seems like a stress free time passer.

Yes, very nice since I'd rather buy a Linux game from itch than GOG. (I have A Short Hike on itch.) The itch client isn't perfect, but at least there is one. And it handles updates. Want to update your GOG games on Linux? You gotta browse your account on their website every now and then and check to see if there are any updates like the olden days of going to Fileplanet for patches. And when there are updates, you don't get to download a patch. You download the whole game over again. This issue is not solved by Lutris or minigalaxy. I'm repeating myself here, but, well, the problem isn't solved! So yeah, I'd rather buy a Linux game on itch than GOG when possible.
