Need new hardware? TUXEDO Computers believe they have revealed the "the lightest Linux powerhouse in the world" with the new AMD Ryzen powered TUXEDO Pulse 14.

That's a pretty big claim, although it is pretty light at 1.1kg which is a world of difference to the recently announced Bonobo WS desktop-class laptop from System76 which comes in at 3.80kg. In their press release, TUXEDO mentioned to us that although it's light, the "TUXEDO Pulse 14 reaches a performance level that is unrivalled in its weight class" due to the AMD Ryzen processors that pack a punch.

For battery life, they're saying it should give you practical use for up to 6 hours tested streaming a 1080p video thanks to the 47 Wh lithium-polymer battery. Going by their order page, it appears that you can order it now but some components aren't in stock until October. Pricing starts at 824.45 EUR.

Overall, it sounds like a nice tidy unit. Good for work and light gaming thanks to the power.

I'm thinking of getting one of these, or the Pulse 15, for my wife as a work machine. She's a heavy GIMP user and this with enough RAM and the upgraded Ryzen 7, looks awesome. Does anyone have any experience with them?

If I was to put a "but" to the machine, it would be the port of choice to charge it. A USB-C port would have the cherry on top.

Looks sweet. I'd love to see one of those with a Ryzen 4900 CPU.

Wow, this is a lot nicer with a much lower price tag than expected. I was expecting the kind of price you see from System 76 or Falcon Northwest (my local boutique builder) with the hardware options I was looking for. Impressive.

Unlikely, they are not released yet : ) Tuxedo/Schenker uses barebones (most often Clevo) so it should be possible to get a similar machine - but Tuxedo's Pulse 15 with Ryzen 5 will not see the light until mid of septembre, the Ryzen 7 variant mid of octobre. I ordered the latter one and wasn't very happy reading the delay announcement...

Great laptop! :) But that's some seriously underwhelming RAM speed for 2020. It's not their fault, obviously, but having bought DDR4-3000 for my desktop in the first days of 2016, while there were faster models for desktop platforms, it was conceivable that we'd get faster DDR4 for laptops about 5 years later.

I look forward to seeing reviews of this laptop, as I might need one soon. :)
