NeuroSlicers is an upcoming in-development real-time strategy game that aims to 'modernize' the genre with a 'post-cyberpunk' setting and it's looking slick.
"Instead of seeing how fast you can click, NeuroSlicers tasks you with how fast you can think. Using intelligent AI-powered units, you are free to make more significant, more strategic decisions that focus on territory control, resource management, upgrading and careful placement of customizable buildings, units and powerful function abilities called Scripts."
It's been quite a long time since we last covered it, while also keeping an eye on their progress. They've now announced that their Steam page has finally gone live as they continue their very early testing period. While this 'pre-alpha' is currently limited to supporting Windows, they confirmed to GOL on Twitter that a Linux release continues to be planned.
Planned features:
- An ongoing narrative that will continue to evolve post-launch
- Real-time strategic gameplay that focuses on macro over micro
- eSports ready Competitive PVP with all abilities unlocked, for truly balanced gameplay
- Narrative campaign that combines Solo, Co-Op and PVPVE gameplay
- A refreshing take on the RTS genre that offers a unique experience while maintaining the fundamentals of fast-paced, highly strategic gameplay.
- Free-form gameplay allowing for true customization of the units, buildings and powers you take into battle
- Competitive ranking in PVP and an ‘Escalation’ system in all other game modes that progresses difficulty alongside your play.
- Fully voiced, diverse cast of NPCs to build relationships with, each with their set of systems, goals and opportunities to offer.

Now that the Steam page is live, you can go ahead and wishlist / follow it along to release. We will of course let you know of any major developments too.

So I can confirm that we still have Linux planned.
We had a working Linux build up until recently that was being tested internally - since we recently shifted to Unity's HDRP pipeline we ran into a handful of issues that we ran out of time to fix for this test. We're currently quite a small team working on this (just 5 full time) and had to prioritize the Windows release of the pre-alpha demo.
Rest assured though, Linux will be a target launch platform.
But pretty much all recent RTS titles that tried to focus on the apparently very small competitive PvP crowd simply failed to gain any traction.
You'd have to give competitive players a reason to spend significant amounts of time on a new game instead of SC2 or WC3 and that includes all the features those have when it comes to online communities, matchmaking, etc. ...
Pretty much an impossible market to break into, I think.
Games like Spellforce, which focus on the single player content (while also allowing MP and Co-Op), generally fare a lot better.
Then again, this one looks very different from the classic RTS base builders, which might enable it to target a different crowd.
Or it might mean that there is no target audience. Who knows.
There's definitely some hope here that their special campaign structure might allow them to speak to both SP players and MP ones at the same time.

Similar stuff what all of our countries politicians keep repeating. Holds absolutely zero indication on anything yet sounds "something". But as we can see they already now get free coverage in the likes of GOL just saying this.
"they confirmed that a Linux release continues to be planned."We, along with other gaming sites, write about upcoming and in-development releases all the time because they're interesting.

Would you prefer we didn't cover anything that was upcoming? Because that's basically what you're trying to get at there which is pretty ridiculous. That line of thinking would prevent us writing about and having discussions on so many amazing things. Nothing is ever set in stone of course but that doesn't mean we're just going to ignore everything until the day of release.
If we find something interesting and the developer, like in this case, confirms it will support Linux and it's planned, our stance on covering such upcoming releases will not change - we will continue to talk about them because they interest us. If you dislike seeing Upcoming releases, then feel free to block the tag in your GOL User Settings under "Content preferences".

Definitely not. I appreaciate it for sure. This is just not really "upcoming" FOR LINUX by any real tangible evidence. I don't know maybe we're often just too soft.
I would have loved them (and other devs) at least come out with something in the lines of: "Hell yes! It is coming to Linux! It is one of our main priorities!!"
What does 'continues to be planned' even mean in practice .....
Edit: i appreciate your work so much actually, that imma order something from your store again now that i see it opened again!
Ps. Maybe a good visible * MERCH * link some place or word about it. I did not know the shop came back and i visit almost daily.

It is all cool, it is your baby of course this site. But i think you once stated that Linux should be clearly stated on KS for you to cover a game here. I dont know exactly what KS is but i assume it is some type of roadmap. Many games with much more Linux indication have been left initially out, i think.

Seriously, the developer said this game is coming to Linux. They can't do anything else for an in-development game that is not out yet. Again, I'm not commenting on this further because it's such a waste of time. They confirmed it, we covered it.

Yea ks is kickstarter and if liam said that this game is on kickstarter? But i cant find it.

the good thing is we will eventually find out what this really means. i wish there was a "!remindme" and in 2 years function here heheh
The game is Windows-only but works fine on Proton 5.9 GE, on the stock Proton the video cutscenes don't play (they can be skipped by holding a mouse button). It's an interesting take on RTS with focus on macro and even different "races" with their unique traits, abilities and playstyle, just like in my first RTS Starcraft. I like the cyberpunk style and music, plan to buy it on launch/EA if they push the Linux build.
