Available in Early Access, Mythicard has a fresh take on battling online with cards and it's free to play so you can jump right in and try it out.

Instead of building up a powerful deck of your own, every player has access to the same pool. Instead, it's all about how and when you use the available cards. Additionally, what also sets it apart is that it's an auto battler. Like Dota Underlords the battles happen for you, instead of you picking cards to fight and their targets. Together, it makes it thoroughly streamlined with no fuss.

Each round you get some gold to buy cards, which you use to build up a list of 8 total cards in play. If you can put 3 of the same onto the board, they will upgrade into 1 higher level card. Card levels are important, as cards deal damage to the actual opponent player health based on their level. This level attack is separate to the normal card attack / defense, which is used against other cards the opponent has in play. Thankfully, with all the unique mechanics the tutorial does a fine job of slowly walking you through it.

With a little mythology sprinkled in, cards range from gods to monsters of the underworld. As you progress, you also earn Affinity across the various types of cards. This mechanic lets you unlock a few special extras for your character, to adjust how you play. Nothing massive though so it's not unfair, small things like when you shuffle a single card will get +1 attack but shuffling costs twice as many coins. Each upgrade has a downside, so it's all about how you want to play.

Thanks to the chilled out music plus the battles happening automatically for you after you sort through what to put into play, it really is a weird competitive online game that's strangely relaxing. It's not like any other turn-based competitive card games I've played.

As for the funding model since it's free to play, the online side will remain so. With no pay to win. They're working on a single-player, which will be a one-off purchase add-on.

I like the idea that it's an auto-battler. Otherwise, you can get really bogged down in the details. I wonder how they'll ensure good (and fun) strategy throughout though?

ugh... I started this game just to try it out... ended up card bashing for 10 hours.

Pretty good for a free early access game. Lots of room for it to grow too.
