art of rally is an astonishingly good racing game from the creator of Absolute Drift, and it just recently had a first major content upgrade that's available now. See also: my previous thoughts.

The heritage update is a juicy one adding in eight new cars spread across the different groups, ghost cars to race against your own personal best time, the menu will now show off your own photos in the little polaroids, plus some tweaks to vehicles to make them a little less bouncy when jump landing. Check out the trailer:

Seems the release went well overall for developer Funselektor Labs with over 1.5K user reviews on Steam meaning they've had quite a few sales. Not only that, the overall user review score is looking really good too. Nice to see another indie doing well and it's totally deserved.

After this update they've confirmed more is on the way mentioning to look forward to "more cars, songs, features and a new location" for next year. Goodie! More art of rally is needed because it really is damn good.

You can buy art of rally for Linux from GOG and Steam.

I was not so fond on the controls of their previous game, Absolute Drif. The cars lost control too easily, making it very frustrating to control on a gamepad.

I hope this one do better in this regard, like what you get in Sega Rally, for example.

It is made to play with a gamepad, but Sega Rally it's not. It's described as a "simcade" but it feels much further to the sim end of the spectrum.

Demo on itch if you want to try it, don't think it's available on GOG/Steam?

Nice... ghost car might finally make me consider it. I'm too bad with car games in general, but the ghost car mechanic its usually the only thing that hooks me to them as it gives a very tangible (and possible!) challenge.

I downloaded it from Itch and your description was spot on. It indeed have borderline simulator controls.

Unfortunately this is not my cup of tea. The simulator like controls and the camera angle made it a no-go for me. If I wanted a more simulator inclined game there is Dirt Rally (that I already own), with much better graphics and camera options. If this was a true arcade one with more camera options I would buy it.

Then might I suggest Bloody Rally Sim. Might be perhaps more for you.

Indeed! The camera modes are more flexible and the controls are more arcade like. This one I may buy.
