War Thunder, the very popular free-to-play, cross-platform, MMO military now has its own Battle Pass system so dedicated players can earn even more from it.
Just like many other games now do, you can either just continue playing free and earn a few extras here and there or pay a fee to be able to unlock all of it as you play it. The first season of the War Thunder Battle Pass runs from December 2 until February 2021. Gajin said each season of the Battle Pass will have plenty of new and often exclusive content like vehicles, decals, XP boosters, profile icons and much more.
This update also brings with it a Seasonal Challenges system which are "tasks of high complexity" that you can do during battles in the main game modes. Each time you complete one, it gives you a big bonus of progress points on the Battle Pass. You start off with three, and each week a new task will be live.
I have to admit since their Vulkan upgrade, which has dramatically improved the experience on Linux, I am tempted to pick it up to support their work. War Thunder has quickly become a favourite since the big New Power update. Annoyingly though, my account is quite an older one that was originally done through my old PlayStation, which causes problems with purchases needing to be done through Sony - I am tempted to just make a new account directly with Gajin to remove the annoying limit since my progress isn't too far.
You can play War Thunder on Linux from the website or Steam.
I have Premium account and I thought this is a greedy move from Gaijin, however, it way too different and it really worths getting it. I also bought my Premiun during 50% discount, 20€ for 6 months.
Honestly the monetisation in this game is getting pretty crazy.
Premium accounts aren't really cheap outside of sales.
You don't need a premium account to play the game but once you start getting into higher tiers the grind becomes obscene without it.
Then you have a separate level of premium tanks which are pretty expensive as well and are definitely p2w levels of op.
I still like it and play it daily but once my membership expires in a few weeks time it might be time for an evaluation which is a shame since i'm really enjoying the new graphics and performance boost with Vulcan.

Why would you buy outside sales? There are sales at least twice a year. I've been playing WT now for more than 6 years always with a premium account and never paid the regular price. (And yes, you have to go for the 90-days or 1-year premiums.)
Vulcan.
That's a planet or a gatling gun... The other one's called Vulkan. That said - the Vulkan renderer really rocks. Particularly when coming from the OpenGL abomination.
even if it isn't official. But it is official, they even feature tux in their youtube videos and in its webpage

Slightly off-topic question before I bother to reinstall: Did we get fully modeled gunner positions on aircrafts with the vulkan update or is that still dx11 exclusive? You get the cockpits. And TAA. And sonic boom graphics. And nice clouds.
can any of you launch the game without any problem? I still cant run the game since the 'new power' update. I've tried everything, delete everything, report problem, launch from local file, update still nothing.Works pretty much flawlessly. It rarely crashes with some out-of-vram error. But apart from that it just... works. Ubuntu 20.04 w/ Mesa 20.2 and AMD RX5700; tried s clean install on a smaller machine with an 5500XT - same result.
