Rogue State Revolution from LRDGames, Inc. (Deep Sixed, Precipice) and publisher Modern Wolf is an upcoming challenging roguelike geopolitical thriller strategy game. In the game you take control of the presidency and rebuild, reform and prepare for new challenges as the Glorious People's Republic of Basenji becomes a new political, economic and cultural hotspot.

The developer just announced it's going to release on March 18 with full Linux support. They also put out a fancy new trailer which showcases some of the animation going into the cutscenes along with some gameplay slices:

There's also now a demo available to try before release, which allows you to experience three years of in-game time and teach you the basics. You also get to deal with a giant meteor crisis which sounds thoroughly interesting. The demo definitely gives off a pretty great feel, it's shaping up to be one of 2021's most unique strategy games.

  • Make tough decisions — balance favour with ministers, voters and allies to maintain your power.

Hmm, looks interesting, but the demo doesn't run on Ubuntu 20.04.
 
./RogueStateRevolution.x86_64: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.33' not found (required by ./RogueStateRevolution.x86_64)

I think Ubuntu 20.04 is only on 2.31.

I think Ubuntu 20.04 is only on 2.31.

Indeed, glibc 2.33 is fairly recent so it sounds like they built custom Godot binaries on a cutting edge distro. This is problematic as Linux binaries need to be built against the oldest glibc version one aims to support, so typically on older distros (CentOS 7 or Ubuntu 16.04).

I'll help the devs to fix their Linux binaries to ensure that they're as portable as official Godot builds.

Yeah, I'm getting the same error (unsurprisingly) on Debian 10. I couldn't even get it running with Proton.

Heh, I found a rather brute-force workaround, which is probably not recommended. I downloaded Godot from godotengine.org and replaced their binary with it. It does make it run, but who knows what that'll do!

It turns out my laptop is too weak too run this demo smoothly so I didn't test it very well. My main rig has Manjaro so no issue with glibc there.

Interesting game concept though and I love the FMV. Red Alert-style acting, for those of you who remember!

FYI, this is now fixed in the Steam demo.

I went to check out the game the other evening intending just to fire it up and play for 15 minutes or so and report back, and ended up playing until after midnight. It's definitely quite compelling, I'll be keeping an eye for its release.
