Need more of the classic FPS Quake in your life? Check out the newly released Torrent of Impurities by a bunch of Finnish mappers which serves up another dose to blast through.

In development for over 9 months it brings over 7 new maps with thousands of monsters spread throughout. Plenty of secrets to find for this will too with over 120 to scout out and find. Using Copper as the base of the pack, which is a "drop-in improvement to stock /id1/ gameplay and an equally suitable basis for new mods" but it tweaks plenty on top of all their unique additions.

The end of that trailer…definitely feeling the need to blast through this. I have personally checked it out using the QuakeSpasm game engine and it works well. Quake is an absolutely retro classic and the gameplay does hold up quite well in this new episode.

To run it you will need a copy of the Quake data files which you can grab from GOG and Steam.

For the Torrent of Impurities episode grab it here.

Saving this for later. Taking a break from playing my older titles as I've been playing them since debut til 2020 but I'm saving all of these maps for when the wave a new games my family want to try comes to a halt. This looks excellent.

Give it time :-)

I've just fired this up in vkQuake and it looks good so far. The gamma was a bit dark but aside from that there's some solid gameplay and some good traps on the first level.

This coming right before the 25th anniversary is going to slot in perfectly for a 25 year anniversary event for my brothers and I!

Hints anyone? Other mods (Quoth, Soul of Evil...) do run fine
Which engine? Works fine here with quakespasm 0.93.2.

I wonder if this can work with Quake 1.5.

I'm using darkplaces (darkplaces-rev20140513-1.301.x86_64). Will have a try with quakespasm...

Yes, indeed, with that one it works.
Glad you got it working!

Googling the error message from your original message leads to this post with the following suggestion:

"It is the demo1.dem in the pak2.pak that is causing problems in BengtQuake and DarkPlaces. For now, add +map start when running, or just extract everything except demo1.dem from the pak2, then get rid of the pak2.pak."

Might be worth a a try if you prefer darkplaces.

Not a big deal though. I'll use quakespasm for this one for now and stay with DP for the rest. Might even switch to QS, if I like it better. The choice for DP I did many years ago, and never re-evaluated

If you can't stand QuakeSpasm's lack of physics interpolation (which makes the game feel less smooth), you can use QuakeSpasm-Spiked instead.
