PayPalIt's the weekend and it has again been a while since we had a community talking point article, so here we are!
Time to make a cup of your favourite brew, put on some headphones, turn the volume up and get some serious gaming done. The question is though: what play button do we click on? What game eats up all of our time?
For a lot of people that will be a stupid question as the answer is probably…Valheim. It certainly is for me, as it's an absolutely fantastic experience. In my own play-through, the second boss has recently been defeated after a casual 50+ hours and it just keeps on getting better. So much to see and do, so much to discover and get excited about.
If you're interested, a developer on Twitter made a thread about some Valheim performance troubles and it's an interesting little read. Now that Iron Gate have plenty of monies from over 6 million sales, hopefully they can get someone in to go through the game and optimize it some more.
Valheim has sucked me in so much so that I've not had much time to go back to the also excellent Loop Hero, which is sat in my library begging to be played. It feels good to have so many great games waiting though!
Over to you in the comments: what have you been playing recently? Do tell us your thoughts on it.

A lot of Hex of Steel (previous name was Operation Citadel), a wargame, very active French dev, and a Discord with great "mods mood".
Started to play Surviving Mars after i got the full package for 16€. Slow paced and boring and interesting all together, mixed felling but i think i like it.
Pax Nova, via Proton, and it seems way better than the 50-60% positive reviews on Steam say from earlier versions. New free DLC this week, plus several big updates with fixes and balances, and an incoming "visual improvement" update soon (tm).

I'm still playing Doom 2016 multiplayer, Slay the Spire, and am seriously considering getting a new development laptop and thinking about getting Hadean Tactics to go with it.

Finally bought and started playing Ara Fell (currently on sale at GOG). It has a native Linux version and runs really well. It's a bit casual on the default difficulty setting, but as I mostly enjoy the story and exploration aspects of RPGs and less so the combat, it suits me just fine.

Finished Valheim Vulkan/Native (all bosses killed) couple of weeks ago. 125h of gametime. Without any massive building projects. Really great game. I like that exploration and discovery comes first in this and survival aspects are more of a secondary feature.
Warhammer Online (Return of Reckoning) wine/DXVK - My Go to MMORPG for some nice PvP action.
Thief (2014) Proton - Love the story and stealth mechanics. Completed chapter 5 currently. UI and stuff is a bit clunky but the gameplay under that is very good imo.
DiRT Rally 2.0 Proton - My racing game fix!
DOOM Eternal Proton - Still haven't completed it. Hate the platforming parts in this game, but love all the gunplay.

After finally picking it up on sale, I've been playing through Streets of Rage 4. It's light, fun and nostalgic with enough new little elements to keep me interested. My only concern is that SteamDB seems to suggest that the DLC will be Windows only...

I have been playing The Elder Scrolls Online, which I have been playing on and off since the beta. I was previously playing in Lutris, but it was unstable no matter the configuration.
I asked some questions and got a very excellent response from "class101 [Linux]", who showed I how to play non-Steam-ESO in the Steam version of the game, along with screenshot and addons support!

Played a lot of hellpoint lately. As someone who has never played a darksoouls like, I have to say that it is decent and challenging game. The only thing that iritates me are the jump's, how can someone have so much anger towards players, that he puts platforms level in a game like that.

This week I finished "Technomancer" and just today I finished "Cloudpunk". Technomancer was pretty good, I enjoyed it more than Greedfall and I wouldn't mind a sequel since the ending left quite a few unanswered questions. Cloudpunk was...okay, rather poor as far as gameplay was concerned but with nice environments and atmospheric.
Before that I finished "Yakuza 0", "Heavy Rain", "Disco Elysium" and "Ion Fury". So quite a lot of gaming this year.

Just started No Man's Sky last night, using proton 4.11. it seems cute. And runs ok for what appears to be a console port. I've never really gotten into the survival craft games, finding them tedious. I was kinda hoping it was more in the Morrowind / STALKER vein of game, But I'm going to give it a shot.

Yesterday I tried Lutris, and I must say I'm a bit torn. On the one hand the community-based install scripts for games are really convenient. No need to check wine's appdb for workarounds, as Lutris just installs them automatically. On the other hand it downloads more than a gigabyte of ancient libraries, and also installs its own wine builds.
Overall, I'd say for me those downsides outweigh the convenience.
(Edit: After thinking about this some more, and just right now dealing with a stupid font rendering regression in wine, I see the benefit of Lutris installing its own WINE builds.)
Also, Lutris' GoG integration has potential, but feels incomplete in its current state, as update notifications seem to still be lacking, so there's no real gain over just using the website.
Long story short: I'll likely delete it again.

Many community maps for Duke Nukem 3D + EDuke32, also Catalyst: Complementation mod for S.T.A.L.K.E.R, also some Picross puzzles on Android tablet.

I'm trying various games on Switch emulators. They ran badly last time I tried them, but now lots of games are playable on my computer. yuzu seems to run better, probably due to the Vulkan support, but has worse compatibility, no resolution upscaling, is harder to manage updates and DLC for games, so I prefer Ryujinx. I'm mostly playing Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury and also have beaten few levels in Ghosts 'n Goblins: Resurrection. Ryujinx is about to get a Vulkan renderer next month, I'm going to play Super Mario Odissey and TLoZ: BotW after that, they don't perform well enough now.
SM3DW is a very fun game with interesting and unique levels and nice colourful graphics. The only issue I can't get used to is movement inertia. Characters don't move instantly when I press direction buttons. The game is easy, and even gives you an invincibility item when you die several times.
There is a problem with Nintendo's button layout that differs from familiar ABXY on XInput controllers. Games rarely have an ability to change controls, and sometimes don't even show letters on buttons. Instead, they show a picture with all four buttons but one of them is highlighted. Very confusing.
I've also bought Dragon Quest XI on the current Steam sale and continued my progress from the demo where I spent 11 hours few months ago. But I already forgot everything about the game, so I'm lost and don't know how to play and what to do. In most cases I start a new game, but losing 11 hours...

I'm playing Grim Dawn yet again - this time through GOG. STarted afresh without my very well stacked stash from my STeam game saves, and enjoying it. A bit slow going without EXP potions and Saviour's merits to jump into Ultimate right away + plus lack of gear, but it's OK. Old-school 3 times playthrough per difficulty.
Completely made up my own build that was really bad in the beginning. Bone Harvest Spellbinder stacking Aether+Vitality+Cold dmg. Now it's semi-good even. Had a person join me in multiplayer last week, and noticed he carried me all the way with his pet build though :)
Yeah I got crossplay multiplayer working between GOG Galaxy (wine) + him on Steam. The major pain was getting GOG galaxy to function properly under Wine to begin with...wrote a short guide/my experiences from that ordeal, posted on Reddit + GOG forums.

After hearing about Metro Exodus being released for Linux, Ive decided to stop playing the proton version until it comes out HAH... Instead, Im going through the first game again, then will go through Last Light :-D.
On the multiplayer side, playing Dying Light with a friend - zombie bashing time !!! YAY :-D.
I also have a spattering of WoW-Mania, DOD, CS:GO, etc...
