Have plenty of games on the Epic Games Store? The Heroic Games Launcher continues maturing to allow you to download and play them on Linux through a native application.

While the Heroic Games Launcher is a native application built for Linux, sadly Epic still don't support Linux at all with their store so games will be run with compatibility layers like Wine. Version 1.5.8 is out now adding in macOS support along with initial support for downloading from the Unreal Marketplace - making it easier than ever to grab your goodies on Linux.

There's also a "critical" bug fix in this update solving an issue where cancelling an installation plus deleting the downloaded files could result in the wrong folder being removed. The problem was the install path containing spaces, which weren't being escaped properly - oops.

A lot of internals were changed to which will prepare Heroic for the future. These include a user interface refresh, support for the GOG store, desktop shortcuts and more. Sounds like a bright future for this open source launcher.

Well, time to give running Steep another try.

I'm on the fence about this; On the one hand, you have new software that someone is working on to get this going. On the other hand, SCREW YOU Epic! I don't see any reason to support them based on their 'we don't give a crap about Linux' attitude :)

The 1.5.7 deb is working well. The 1.5.8 deb gives me a blank black window on Ubuntu 20.10.

Has anyone here used Rare? It's a GUI for legendary as well but without electron.

Who's supporting them? I'm just grabbing all the free games. They haven't seen a penny of my money in almost two years.

And most of the stuff seems to be DRM-free. Or, at least, it can be launched without the Store (or Heroic) running in the background. The only game I've come across so far that can't is GTAV, and it has such a convoluted start process - run Epic, update, run the R* launcher, update again (and fail, go back to step #1) - that I've given up. It did work for a while, but meh. Easy come, easy go, although I'd be annoyed if I'd paid for it. Which is why I'm not going to buy anything on Epic's platform until there's official support.

Didn't know about it. But I'll give it a try.

Still, even free comes at the price of counting as one of their customers. If people just didn't sign up for it, then it would go away. Though with one or two successful games, they hoped to do what Valve did, and so far it seems to have succeeded.
