Thunder Lotus have announced that their wonderful game Spiritfarer has hit 500K sales, making it their most successful title to date and The Lily Update has been released.

This update might be small overall but an important one. It brings in the new character, Lily the Butterfly Spirit, who guides you through several scenes which are supposed to "add depth and detail to the main character Stella’s story" and there's improvements for local co-op and bug fixes too. Sounds like a really great update to such a unique story and gameplay experience. If you've not played it: you guide spirits of the deceased, you are their ferrymaster and look after them before they go to the afterlife.

From the press release:

“As ever, the updates we’re bringing to Spiritfarer this year are all about the fans – those who helped make this our studio’s most popular game ever” says Spiritfarer Creative Director Nicolas Guérin. “We wanted to keep the Lily Update small, to address the single most common feedback we’ve received from players since launch: fans want to know more about Stella and what, ultimately, her quest is about. It’s the emotional core of the game, so we wanted to get it right; Lily offers a sweet and personal window onto who Stella is, and we hope the players like what we’ve done with this update. The 500,000 units milestone is huge for us, and felt like a fitting time to add Lily – meanwhile, we’re putting the finishing touches on the more gameplay-heavy updates to come. Stay tuned!”

Note: the Linux version on Steam has a delayed update, the GOG version is up to date.

You can buy Spiritfarer on GOG, itch.io, Steam and Stadia.

They'll get a sale from me just as soon as my little one is old enough. I'm really looking forward to it.

I'm so much looking forward for my two little ones (3 yo) to become old enough for some (more) interesting games! :)

For now, they're playing their first game, Under Leaves:

That's unusual. Usually it's the other way around.

FWIW, mine started keyboard-mousing at 2, with Qube - first just on my lap while we talked about the puzzles (there's some dialogue you'll probably want to mute) and then taking over himself a bit later. He's since (he's 5 now) done The Talos Principle, Qube 2, some of The Road To Gehenna (it's really hard!), Slime Rancher, and a bunch of other games that are listed in the "games for children" thread.

There's just an amazing amount of awesome games around. It's a darn sight richer than the Granny's Garden that I grew up with.

Ah, it seems I missed something good by not watching the forums!?!
This thread?

If we're talking about a real garden, my wife's disagreement couldn't be stronger. :)

Cool, but it's still going to end with
Spoiler, click me
"and it was all a dream"
, which isn't exactly satisfying.

I have actually really enjoyed Spiritfarer as well as Sundered. Thunder Lotus just makes good games.

Sundered didn't quite grab me. I gave it five hours before giving up, but that might have been because I was a bit burnt out after back-to-back Salt & Sanctuary and Hollow Knight. It's beautiful, but didn't keep my interest.

By contrast, SpiritFarer kept me playing for four straight days, over 22 hours. I agree with everything Yahtzee says in his Zero Punctuation video - it's emotionally engaging, heart warming, heart breaking, yes the animations start to grate a bit quite early on despite being wonderful, and the ending is a bit meh, because of the way it lets you go all completionist. I have to say that by the time I got to around hour 18 or 19, I'd had enough, and I finished the game fairly quickly thereafter.

Wonderful though. Can't recommend it enough. I'm really looking forward to what Thunder Lotus might do next, because whatever it is, you just know it's going to have an incredible level of polish, play beautifully and it's going to look amazing.
