Another week comes to a close and there's been a number of fun releases lately - so come have another community chat in the comments about what you've been playing.
For me here, to I'm sure no surprise, there's been a rather lot of Metro Exodus since it's now released for Linux. Quite a beauty this one, another game where (like Valheim), I find myself taking screenshots constantly because some of the scenes are just awesome or completely surprising.
Here's a few fun shots of it in my travels so far (click to enlarge):
4A Games and Deep Silver managed to do a Linux port that does perform very well. However, it's not without issues. It eats ram for breakfast, lunch and dinner - there's what seems to be a memory leak somewhere which has been seen across both AMD and NVIDIA. We've been told they have confirmed the issue in support tickets - so they are aware it's a problem.
No doubt I will be returning to Valheim once this is finished with…
Voxel Tycoon is also sucking up some of my time, it's capturing me in a way that other building, management and logistical sims haven't before. The thought of building up through an endless work is quite enticing to get everything working together.
Over to you: what have you been playing recently and what are your thoughts on it? Give over your latest and greatest recommendations to fellow GOL readers.
Doom 2 + GZDoom + community maps
Commander Keen 4 + Commander Genius port + community levels
Anno 2070 (lutris + wine)
BUT, I have rediscovered Last Epoch. It was in my "unplayable" folder. I decided to give it a go, and it works great. They also have made the game a LOT better since I last tried it to, so I am having a blast.
Manjaro KDE
kernel 5.10.26
amd ryzen 7 1700*
nvidia geforce rtx 2070
*Is this why I am getting better results with Metro?
- Hero’s Hour, a HOMM inspired game on itchio with very active developer
- OpenXcom with Xcom-Files mod, still awesome with recent updates (less than one month old)
- Some Brigador, i replay it from time to time, loving this game
- I also have a new campaign on Shadow Empire, but perf are bad via WINE on my system

That new update got me playing a lot more but I did have two crashes while starting up. Never crashed before. Not sure how to do any of the logs to help the devs out. Will dig into the readme and what not when I have more time.
Feudal Alloy - GOG
This has been a lot of frustrating fun. 2D souls like hand drawn sci-fantasy game which has silly elements. I'm feeling it. I'm 30% towards completing it.
Zombie Army: Dead War - Stadia
Mowing down zombies with friends is always great! I started playing this with a gamepad recently which has been a lot easier than I thought it would be. My trusty Logitech F310 has been knocking out all of my gaming needs to the point that my KB and M feel neglected.
Before this, since I beat Children of Morta, I played Torchlight II further than I've played it in the past, but it gets a bit repetitive for my taste, along with the burden of inventory management, so I'm still only a third of the way through it. I played a bit of Skullgirls and Antichamber after that, but I have been busy with other things a lot lately.
Here's hoping I will get into Metro 2033 a bit further. My plan is to work my way through it and Metro: Last Light and have a polished installation of Metro Exodus to move on to by the time I'm done with the first two.
