Excited to play Resident Evil Village? It may not support Linux but that isn't stopping Valve with a new Proton Experimental update out now.
The latest update to Proton Experimental 07/05/2021 has a single line added in the changelog which notes "Beginnings of Resident Evil Village support.". With that in mind then, Valve's partner CodeWeavers and their Wine hackers are already hooking up whatever they can to get it working.
From initial few reports, it looks like you can actually get in-game now thanks to Proton Experimental but there are plenty of issues like settings not being able to change and videos not yet showing up. So keep that in mind if you were planning to pick it up to play it on Linux.
Like a number of other big titles, it probably won't be too long before it becomes much more playable given the progress on the Proton compatibility layer.
If you're not clear on what Proton and Steam Play are, be sure to check out our constantly updated dedicated page. It's a special compatibility layer for running Windows games and apps from Steam on Linux.
You can buy Resident Evil Village from Humble Store and Steam.

I don't know I don't own the game (yet)
Given i've bought but not had any substantial play time with TW:RR and Metro: Exodus it may be a few weeks before I get RE:Village
Just though having seen the update on GE's site others might want to know.
However depending on gpu settings the game might slow down during some cutscenes and the video desyncs from the audio when that happens (this is mainly at the begining and ending parts of the game).
Also videos don't work. Some of the devs claim they got partial video playback working but that the game still crashes during playback of one of the videos. I was unable to get the video playback to work so far using the system gstreamer libraries.
Aside from remakes, Resident Evil hasn't produced a decent game in over 10 years. Not heard much about Village, but I don't have high hopes. Regardless, if it doesn't have native Linux support, I'm not interested.
Capcom is going bankrupt cause you do not care. But the other 99% of Linux gamers will be fine with just clicking play on the game in Steam and able to play without the need of Dual Boot.
Damn Valve and it's 30%(25% in this case, this game will get easily over the million copies sold), they should be getting nothing, so Linux gamers can go into oblivion again. So much arrogance coming from the 3-4% of the market.
I love Linux but some Linux gamers are not conscious they mean nothing to most developers out there.

Two points:
1) I've no idea about Capcom's financial situation but I'd wager that a company would be more likely to go bankrupt due to churning out rehashes of the same IP every year or two.
2) The latest RE requires a little more than simply clicking 'play' to launch it in Linux.

You contradict yourself. I refer you to your sentence about Capcom 'going bankrupt cause you do not care'.
I had to edit the .ini to change the graphics settings and could not figure out how to change the resolution. It's FullScreenDisplayMode. I've copied some parameters from the config file of my installed RE7.
just completed the gameThe whole game or just the demo?
the whole game

Wow. That's got to be the most toxic post I've ever seen here. All WorMzy did was stated that he personally isn't interested in the game, if it doesn't have a native Linux version. And what's wrong with that?
There are plenty of great native Linux games. There is nothing wrong if someone personally decides that he will only buy those. If anything, if he decides to buy a native game instead of non-native, it can only be good for Linux gaming.
