Another Friday, another two weeks and so a fresh development release is out of the compatibility layer Wine. 6.10 is the name, and bringing more compatibility for Windows games and applications on Linux is the game. A tasty drink to enjoy responsibly and also awesome open source software.

From the release notes here's the highlights:

  • Mono engine updated to version 6.2.0, with upstream updates.
  • Shell folders naming scheme follows recent Windows.
  • WinePulse library converted to PE.
  • More math functions from Musl in the C runtime.
  • Various bug fixes.

For the bug fixes they noted 25 solved as of this release. Some newly solved, some getting fresh reports from older bugs. Improvements will be seen for the likes of: TIE: Fighter: Collectors Edition, Nocturne, League of Legends, osu!, TrackMania Nations Forever, Grand Theft Auto 4, Starcraft Remastered and more.

Git yourself, see what I did there? No? I shall see myself out.

For newer readers and Linux users here's a refresher - Wine is a compatibility layer built for operating systems like Linux, macOS and BSD. The idea is to allow other platforms to run games and applications only built and supported for Windows. It's also part of what makes up Steam Play Proton. Once a year or so, a new stable release is made.
