Need a reasonably high-end Linux powered ultrabook? Slimbook think they have it ready with the Slimbook Executive. This is another "3K" laptop with a 16:10 2880x1800 screen and a sweet 90Hz refresh rate,.

Announced today, they claim "Our new ultrabook bests even our top sales champion, the Slimbook ProX. The Executive is even lighter, has a sturdier chassis with an elegant and minimalist design, a higher resolution display, larger battery and better I/O.". Not only that, they say it rivals the likes of the Microsoft's Surface Book or the Zenbook Ultralight from Asus.

Specification Highlights:

  • High density LTPS 14" display with a 16:10 ratio and a screen resolution of 2880x1800
  • Unparalleled single core performance in the ultra mobile space with Intel Core i7-1165G7 (4 cores / 8 threads) backed up by the Intel Iris Xᵉ
  • 90Hz refresh rate that takes it easy on your eyes for those long work shifts.
  • Anti-glare panel with 400 Nit maximum brightness and an sRGB color gamut coverage of 99%
  • 3 native video outputs: HDMI 2.0 + USB-C DisplayPort + Thunderbolt 4
  • New performance modes for the fan and CPU power to ensure quieter fan operation and improved battery life
  • Minimalist and elegant but robust body design built completely in magnesium alloy
  • Two DDR4 RAM and M.2 SSD slots contained within 1KG.

The initial config comes with 8GB RAM (not soldered, can upgrade), a 250GB NVMe SSD.  You can order it ready with Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Ubuntu MATE, elementary OS, Linux Mint, Manjaro, KDE Neon, Fedora, Windows or a dual boot of Linux and Windows. Their keyboards can be configured with either an ISO or ANSI (US) layout with their fancy Tux Key to replace the usual Windows key you see from other vendors.

It's available to order now with a €1299 starting price so it's not exactly cheap however looking around, it seems to be comparable to other vendors. Some are cheaper, some more expensive with lots of different configs going. Based on what you get with the initial specs and the great screen, it overall seems to have a reasonable price for the kit you get.

Check it out on the Slimbook website.

High end Linux laptops are a dime a dozen. I wish there were more mid range Laptops to choose from.

Precisely. My parents do not need laptops this fancy.

I wish they were a dime a dozen--I'd totally buy a dozen of 'em.

Starting with the positives: I like that it's made of magnesium alloy and, wonder above wonders, both memory slots (and the ssd slots?) are non-soldered.

Negatives: yet another boring ultrabook design, cpu is going to temperature constrained, battery life is "meh" for the price.

It's not so much high end linux laptops that are a dime in a dozen, it's the ultrabooks that are. It leaves me very much with the impression that people are drop-shipping them from some aliexpress seller.

4 cores doesn't seem very high-end to me. Ultrabooks are cools for travelling, but trying to get anything done with them in the office, with constant throttling is a big pain.

Intel has traditionally been skimpy with cores. I hope this 16:10, 3K loveliness is the start of a new trend.

Anyone can tell where this is sourced from? I can't find this model on the Clevo website.
