After the success of their first two models, hardware vendor Wooting is currently creating the 'Wooting two HE' - a new full-size analog keyboard with incredibly accurate sounding keys.

What's the fuss about this one then, why are we writing about this particular keyboard? Well, with the Wooting two HE each individual key as a full analog output and they claim that this is "this is the future of keyboards". Wooting say it "detects full switch motion with 0.1mm accuracy from start to end" so you can fully configure each individual key press to activate how and when you want.

They also hooked up a feature called Dynamic Keystroke, allowing you to assign multiple keys to a single key based on the actuation point (how far you press) so it's macro heaven. It stores everything in the keyboard too with 16MB memory on-board memory, and comes with a detachable USB-C cable so your keyboard cable dying would be a thing on the past - just get a new one.

As you can tell from the picture above it's also featuring RGB lighting with that also being configurable per-key. Lots of different effects are possible as is changing the lighting level. With the on-board storage you can then swap it between machines and just have it all there, no cloud accounts or anything.

With the purpose-built software you can remap any of the keys, tweak the lighting and plenty more. Best of all though? Their software supports Linux too. They even have an SDK up on GitHub.

Like most other hardware vendors, they've been facing a few delays due to the shortage of components needed. However, in a recent update they covered how the batch production is going and took a look at a final sample:

Linux software for a hardware accessory? I mean, I'm aware it's done, but not enough for me not to sit up and take notice when something as sweet sounding as this Wooting keyboard comes along. Jeez, and I'd LOVE to get my hands on a full size British keyboard with it's spacious Enter key. (Apparently most Americans who are not me have no problem hitting that tiny Enter key on our keyboards).

Now that's a sweet looking keyboard.
With numpad, as the PCMR gods intended.

I preordered one back in March. This will be my first foray into "non-mainstream" keyboards, so we'll see if it lives up to the hype :)

I miss the spacious enter key! Also find it fun when trying to type on old computers, and figure out that Shift 2 is where the " is... Clearly the USA typers are more about the fat backspace key over having a fat Return key (that's right, I call it a Return key. I'm old, damnit!)

So I have always said that one reason to use a gamepad on a PC is for third person games where analog movement is sometimes required. Well, this keyboard solves that! I think I may have to see about getting a UK keyboard though, as I do prefer to have that fat Return key. Then again, I do use the | a lot more than I did back in the day, so having that right there may be preferred...

Interesting. I wonder if the key caps for all letters are identical shape so I can change them around into dvorak. Although I haven't changed anything on my current keyboard, so it's not exactly necessary. I do usually like tactile switches, but if you can actually get some analogue output from the keys, I might be willing to try something new.

I do too, but not at the expense of the large left shift key.

Unfortunately, Wooting is not planning on having any ortholinear layout.
So I'm going to try a Lily58 once the Nice!Nano controllers are back in European stocks.

Not sure, it looks like OEM profiles from the picture.

This KB does really look nice. I actually think about buying one. Cool idea and at least on the pictures and videos it looks also well made.

On the other hand, my Cherry MX Board runs well and I am also thinking about an ErgoDox. Nice to have the choice between really well made Linux supporting devices.

Lol, me too. The only reason I didn't write "(Carriage) Return" *DING* is I didn't want to lose the kids. And we have a big "Backspace" key because of all the mistakes we make trying to hit that tiny "Enter" key. XD
