It's coming close to 10 years since the Steam Workshop went live and so Valve are doing something special. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has a big art competition going live tomorrow (July 22, 2021) for 10 lucky people to win.
The contest itself is relatively simple. Valve will pick 10 designs based on a dream-theme, and have them shipped with CS:GO in a Dreams & Nightmares case. Each person (or team) will win $100,000 and multiple entries can be submitted. All you need is an active Steam account that's made a purchase of $5 or more.
We launched the Workshop on Steam almost 10 years ago in the hopes of creating a centralized hub for community created content. Since then, over five million content creators have submitted and published over 20 million new items for a variety of games on Steam, making them available for purchase to millions of gamers around the world. And, as everyone who plays these games knows - including CS players - many of the most iconic in-game items, maps, and more have been authored by members of the community. The Dreams & Nightmares Content Contest is designed to help further support this community.

With CS:GO still being Valve's number 1 game, it seems quite fitting to mark the occasion with it. The Steam Workshop has enabled so much creativity, with some games seeing multiple thousands (even tens of thousands) of items being submitted and for some games it's what's kept them alive years after release.
It hasn't always been rosy though, remember when they tried letting people sell mods on the Steam Workshop back in 2015? People got seriously upset with it and it didn't take long for Valve to rethink it and remove the feature only a few days after it launched.
