GOverlay, the open source app for managing various Linux gaming overlays just got a fantastic upgrade, with it now having a live OpenGL preview for MangoHud.
MangoHud is awesome but configuring it by hand is a bit of a nuisance, diving into text files and remembering all the different options. GOverlay gives you simple checkboxes and dropdowns to adjust your overlay and now you only need to tap a button to update a real-time preview. Nothing external needed now and it makes everything even simpler - exactly what we love to see.
The 0.6.2 release highlights:
- NEW: Implemented realtime Opengl cube for realtime hud preview.
- NEW: Keybind to upload logging results to flightlessmango.com
- FIX: Save button on the logging folder window automatically closes the form. (Asked by jason)
- FIX: VKbasalt generating wrong path for Shaders folder
- FIX: Small interface tweaks
- REMOVE: Text hud preview

Well its in aur and chaotic aur, and manjaros official repo, so 50% of distros or so its already there without having to resort to a crappy snap or flatpak.

I have to take sometime to study flatpak/snap packaging. Those that aren't on Arch based distros can download the latest binary and start goverlay with:

thanks for your amazing overlay! a snap and or a flatpak would be astounding news
for obvious reasons. one thing many linux users have forgotten about (as shown well in the second comment) is to see the position of a total new comer.

These kinds of comments are not nice nor constructive. Snaps and or flatpaks have given help to so many new comers on moving to Linux.

Arch vs Debian. Gnome vs KDE. X11 vs Wayland. Urgh. Astonished that a 1% community feels the need to half, or even quarter its community to get one over on the other side. Really frustrating.

Exactly. We all should work on to make it go away finally. It is harming Linux

Well snap/flatpaks makes for a really bad first experience for a new user so not really, they are slow and very buggy and way harder to find where they actually put their files, and some are sandboxed which is horrible for a new user. Think I never used a snap or flatpak that didnt constantly crash on me.
