It's been a while since we had a new major release of Lutris, the free and open source game manager that allows you to bundle together all of your games in a single application.
Now available as a Beta, Lutris 0.5.9 is the biggest release for some time and adds in initial support for downloading and running games from the Epic Games Store. Much like the Heroic Games Launcher, since Epic don't support Linux all downloads will be Windows versions you need to then run through a compatibility layer (but Lutris sorts that for you).
That's not all though, here's what else is new:
- Add support for Steam for Windows as a game source
- Add support for DXVK-NVAPI and DLSS
- Add FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) option for compatible Wine versions
- Add workaround for locale issues when Lutris is launched from Steam
- Add gamescope option
- 3rd party services can be enabled or disabled in the preferences
- The main preferences window has now tabs on the left side
- Runner configuration is now available from the main preferences window
- VKD3D is a separate option from DXVK
- Esync is enabled by default
- Dolphin is available as a game source (reads games from the emulator's
local database of games)- Scan for installed games when using Steam source
- Improved automatic installers for GOG, detection of DOSBOX and ScummVM
games.- DRM free services (Humble, GOG) can locate existing installations of games
- Use 7zip as the default extractor when not given an archive type
- Improve process monitoring, allowing for monitoring of Steam games
- Disable AMD switchable graphics layer by default (breaks games)
- Removed support for Gallium 9
- Removed support for X360CE
- Removed legacy WineD3D options
For those of you who groan about how many launchers and stores there are, perhaps this is exactly what you need? It does often make things far easier than constantly switching between them all. Just keep in mind this version is a Beta and so it may come with some bugs that need fixing.
You can download the Beta version from GitHub. For more info visit the official site and you can help fund Lutris on their Patreon page.

Does it also negate the need to have the shop client installed on one's system to be able install and run games from that store?

- Add FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) option for compatible Wine versions
Does the latest lutris-wine include the patch? It would be weird if it didn't. Last I heard, the consensus was not to use Proton versions in Lutris.

You can also use GloriousEggroll's wine-ge-custom. which is a custom build of wine, made to use with lutris:
https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/wine-ge-custom/releases/tag/6.14-GE-2
It also supports FSR.

Quoting: Luca_PioBut do you use legendary for the client to download the games? From what I see it just installs the full blown Epic Windows client, and then you use that to install your game.
At least this is what it did for me when I tried to install GTAV.
Quoting: dubigrasuNo that is just because you probably used an old installation script. The integration is similar to humble or gog. I would guess that they use legendary as it is both written in python but I am not sureQuoting: Luca_PioBut do you use legendary for the client to download the games? From what I see it just installs the full blown Epic Windows client, and then you use that to install your game.

I just linked my Epic account to Lutris (the same way I did for GOG and Humble) and choose to install the game. Not sure how else it should be done.

Quoting: Leeo97oneSeems like it's not using Legendary: https://github.com/lutris/lutris/commit/68c9c1afc39f9e0aaf3e4be8b6acd3ee690d6bc5I wish it did. Apparently it does a one-time install of the Epic store (windows client) and all the subsequent games are going through it.
Unfortunately, while the installing of the Epic store went fine, installing other games was a bust. Every separated game installation is "waking up" the Epic store and then hangs.
And even if it did worked, is still a bit messy, the Epic store is filling the screen with countless pop-ups and is slow as a hog. Is usable alright, but meh...

Does it have a GUI for FSR options, or you do it Proton-style via launch parameters?
