NVIDIA has released a fresh update to their stable Production Branch for Linux with the 470.63.01 driver.

Compared with the recent NVIDIA 470.57.02 driver and the Beta before it that added in the likes of DLSS for Proton, hardware accelerated OpenGL and Vulkan rendering on Xwayland, and asynchronous reprojection this is a smaller one. Nice to see NVIDIA keep on quickly updating their Linux drivers though even when smaller.

Here's what it changes:

  • Added support for the following GPUs:
    • NVIDIA RTX A2000
  • Added support for the VK_KHR_wayland_surface extension.
  • Fixed a Vulkan performance regression that affected rFactor2.

The new extension further boosts their Wayland support. Here's what the extension does:

The VK_KHR_wayland_surface extension is an instance extension. It provides a mechanism to create a VkSurfaceKHR object (defined by the VK_KHR_surface extension) that refers to a Wayland wl_surface, as well as a query to determine support for rendering to a Wayland compositor.

The RTX A2000 GPU was just announced today as their latest Ampere professional card, which NVIDIA say is "the most powerful low-profile, dual-slot GPU for professionals". It combines the newest RT cores, Tensor Cores and CUDA cores with 6GB of ECC graphics memory in a compact form factor to fit smaller boxes. The actual launch and availability is set for October.

Since it's a stable driver, all users should be good to upgrade to it.

I hope they fixed the memory leaks.

I think I experienced a degrade in performance on Steampunk 2077 with the latest (big) update. There's some random stutter now that didn't use to be there. Not too much mind you, but still annoying when it used to be as smooth as it was.

I hope this (whatever it is) is handled in some update sooner than later.

I hope they fixed the memory leaks.

Just tried the driver and no, it seems not.

I've tried to play some games on Wayland with Nvidia drivers yesterday, and it's quite a good experience.
However, there is no way to disable Vsync, which is a no-go for me.
