Following on from the huge recent 470.57.02 stable release that added in the likes of DLSS for Proton, hardware accelerated OpenGL and Vulkan rendering on Xwayland, and asynchronous reprojection - there's a new Vulkan Beta Driver out today with 470.56.05.

This release focuses on hooking up more extensions including:

Reminder: This special Vulkan beta driver is where all the shiny new stuff goes in before making its way into the stable release for everyone. Really, it's mostly aimed at developers and serious enthusiasts. Unless you need what's in them, it's generally best to use the stable drivers.

The newest stable versions of the main NVIDIA driver for Linux are at NVIDIA 470.57.02 released on July 19, 2021 from their "Production Branch" series or 465.31 released on April 29, 2020 from their "New Feature" series. Confused? It's a lot of numbers to remember but both Production and New Feature series are fine for normal use.

The last "stable" NVIDIA 470.57.02 has memory leaks

I wonder if i can play in vr again with this version. Async reprojection broke it entirely for me.

I noticed some issues with a few games where my ram starts being eaten until my whole system crashes. I thought it was only me. I'll. Try a different version to see if this happens.

Known issue. Reported to Nvidia when 470 was in beta phase. Mostly happens on D3D12 titles.

465 driver is fine. Regression is 470 specific.

For me too, I was looking forward to 470 to finally be able to VR on Linux and have a good experience. I'm seeing what looks like misaligned frames, almost looking like tracking errors sometimes. Also I see black streaks come in and out of view. What are you experiencing?

Same for me. I got it to work again by disabling async reprojection by setting enableLinuxVulkanAsync to false in ~/.steam/steam/config/steamvr.vrsettings (close SteamVR first).

This fixes the memory leak problem?
I don't have this file, how can I add this setting? it's a JSON format or just add
enableLinuxVulkanAsync=false
?

my steamvr doesnt even start properly. it connects to the base stations and controller but screen keeps black, and shortly (2sec) after connecting to stations and stuff the pc freezes a short time and then i get error 203.
all what changed on a before working system are the sytsem updates.
in windows it runs smooth af.
