The Fertile Crescent has been an absolutely brilliant retro-styled Bronze Age real-time strategy game that's currently free and the future of it has been secured.

While it's currently free and a hobby project for the team, it's still a very high quality game that feels like a low-res Age of Empires but with some mechanics that set them apart. Writing in a new update post on itch.io, the team shared that "TFC will be leveling up from a hobby project to a full time job for us thanks to a publishing deal we signed earlier this year". The recent updates to the game have remained free and they've been pretty big, which is thanks to this publisher.

Now they're working on a last free update to the current version of the game, to then move onto building it up into a commercial version. The good news is that this one will stick around and get bug fixes but the majority of the time will be on the upcoming paid-for bigger version that will eventually release on Steam.

Being able to work full time on our own RTS game has long been our dream, and we’ve got big plans for the full version of TFC, with interesting single player content, graphical upgrades, as well as new mechanics and units. — LincRead

This is awesome. I love how their work paid off and they found a publisher interested so much to invest in them <3

Getting off of Itch and on to Steam got my attention.

I don't wanna dash to pieces people who like Itch, but there is so much STUFF on there I really don't have the time to go through it and find the good ones inamongst the bad ones (which are many).

I need a Steam Link so I can wishlist this and give it a closer look. I'm not sure if the graphics are off putting or charming just yet, big AoEIIDE Fan -- also I'm glad they are going commercial -- I would love a well crafted RTS like this and be happy to pay for it assuming it [x] all the boxes on what I would enjoy and is fun, multiplayer, looks good in 4k, doesn't lag crazy during wars, etc...

Not that it affects me, but has it even been confirmed that the Steam version will maintain Linux support? It seems to be in the gift of the publisher, and the Steam listing only has Windows system requirements.

I would have been more than happy just to pay for the game on itch.io instead, but they owe me nothing so I can not complain. Credit for maintaining the free version.
