The latest and greatest development release is available for Wine so you can defeat those Sunday blues with some tasty fresh bottled code. Wine 6.15 brings various new features and bug fixes.
For newer readers and Linux users here's a refresher - Wine is a compatibility layer built for operating systems like Linux, macOS and BSD. The idea is to allow other platforms to run games and applications only built and supported for Windows. It's also part of what makes up Steam Play Proton. Once a year or so, a new stable release is made.
What's new in Wine 6.15 includes:
- WinSock (WS2_32) library converted to PE.
- Support for performance data in the registry.
- More 32->64-bit thunks for NTDLL calls.
- Improved floating point status handling in the C runtime.
- More preparation work for the GDI syscall interface.
This time around 49 bugs were noted as being solved. Usual here applies: some bugs were fixed previously, some only recently. Bugs fixed include issues sorted out for: fixes for some anti-cheat systems like 64-bit MRAC Anti-Cheat (My.Com Warface) kernel service, DELL BIOS flash utility, BattlEye Anti-Cheat and fixes for specific games like The Park, DARQ, HITMAN 2 (2018), Little Nightmares, Resident Evil 4, Civilization 4, GreedFall, FFXIV Launcher, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and more.
Quoting: rustybroomhandleSadly the FFXIV Launcher fix is for the old launcher. The new one is still not working and its only a matter of time before support for the old one ends.
Yeah, it seems all interest in fixing it died as soon as the "good enough" temp workaround was found. My fear is that it goes away with the next xpac when they roll out the rest of the new engine changes and there will be days/weeks of not being able to get in. I know some 3rd party launchers are out there but I don't like the idea of using them. I wish I had enough know how to at least try poking at it.
...or we could just create a GoFundMe to hire a hitman to target the kind of people who decide to create game launchers requiring not only a browser component, but also uses ActiveX. 🤮
