You probably heard recently that Valve was readying up Steam Deck developer kits and now we can see that quite a lot of developers have received one. Not just the big lot either, developers of all sorts across the world seem to be getting them and showing them off.

The thing is that for it to be a success, you don't just want the top most played games working well - you want as many as possible across every genre that developers have managed to created. Valve is clearly aware of this of course and you can see that in who they've approved for a Steam Deck dev kit.

Here's a a little round-up bundle of developers / publishers that have been showing off their dev kits:

We could keep going for a while (there's a lot) but hopefully you found this small slice interesting.

It's getting very exciting to see such a huge push and seeing so many developers genuinely excited about it and impressed. Such a completely different world to the old Steam Machines. Hopefully this really will get developers to pay attention to Linux more, although some are likely to only support the Steam Deck specifically. Our reservation is in the Q1 2022 batch so we have to wait a while.

For those that also somehow missed it both Easy Anti-Cheat and BattlEye also recently announced support.

The question to you: what will be the first game you play on the Steam Deck when it arrives? It's a question that seems easy but I've been asking it myself and I'm completely lost.

I don't have many Steam games in my library to be honest, but once I get it I want to see how Battlefield games run lol. Of course I'll also be using RetroArch

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. I know there isn't a Linux port but it runs great under Wine (I have the GOG version). As for Steam games, probably 7 Days to Die and maybe Call of Cthulhu first since I'm playing them on my PC right now.

It would have been nice to see the likes of the Dice devs ect messing with one, We could have at least some hope of the big boys seriously thinking about SD/Linux support.

For the later Battlefield games, it's just as much a curiosity if they'll run under Linux, as it is to see if they'll run on the Steam Deck with good enough performance! Those are some hefty games as far as requirements go.

Now that I've got a somewhat decent set up for playing Valheim on the Steam Controller, I'll have to see how to convert that over to the Steam Deck when I get one. Q1 for 2022!

It's a shame they share their video's on twitter.

Their streaming capability is garbage and all I see is 240p resolution video with plenty of compression artifacts because of the video compression.

And Twitter takes forever to load the higher quality but by then it's too late and I already reached the end of the video.

But it IS good to see developers playing around with it.

I hope that will be the big next hardware announcement (other than the Steam Deck docking station ofc.).

Quoting: CorbenFor me the first game to try is probably Everspace 2!
What a surprise, hm?
ERESY!!!
Everspace 2 deserves a BIG *VA monitor with deep blacks in a dark room and why not, ambilight/like leds on his back.

I'll probably install whatever game I'm currently playing, but install a few that I always go back to as well.

Can't wait to get my hands on this thing...

I'll probably revisit some older Steam Machines classics along with their Proton sequels (for some)... Bioshocks, Metros, Shadow of Mordor/War, Tomb Raiders, Mad Max and Witcher 2&3... I'll probably replay Batman Arkham series too.
