SCS Software have begun expanding what's possible with the newly introduced Convoy Mode multiplayer in both their truck sims Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator.

Now available in Open Beta for owners is the 1.42 update, which adds it the "very loud request" of mod support to Convoy. Not an easy task since everything needs to match between players and online support is difficult at the best of times for developers to get right. Speaking on their blog they mentioned the challenge of "profile recovery when a crucial MOD is removed or changed, and visualizing what MODs are missing from the Steam Workshop when players join a server that contains modifications".

Thanks to their work there's a new UI to help with mod support with the session browser showing what mods a server needs and there's an icon for servers in the list to show what has mods and what doesn't. An option to join servers with mods you don't have will also now be able to give you the option to download them, as long as they are on the Steam Workshop. Not always possible though, if people use mods not on Steam. All sounds pretty good.

SCS also say the 1.42 will bring an update to their Force Feedback profiles for steering wheels and controllers, with an additional mention specifically for Linux to say "Force feedback improved and available for more controller types on more systems". Nice to see they're giving the Linux support some extra attention there.

To access the Beta for either game right click on it -> go to Properties -> Betas and select "public_beta".

It can sound weird, but IMO they should focus on a sequel. They already put a lot of work on it, which is amazing, no doubts, but how much is too much?

I'm pretty sure they're doing well revenue-wise with their map packs. A sequel would split their player base, and a lot of them might decide to move on to something that isn't driving trucks.

Not before they cover the whole Europe (almost there) and US (still a long way to go). And even then I think it would be better to move to other continents instead of making ETS3 for example.

Not entirely wrong, but then they should plan the transition to a more modern engine or update of the existing one - the trucks themselfs look great, but the environment is starting to show its age for sure.

AFAIK they are updating/reworking the oldest maps, like Germany. And the engine gets updates regularly, too. I think they reworked sound not that long ago.
