Paradox only recently talked about a bunch of changes coming in the free 3.2 update and now they've announced Stellaris: Aquatics Species Pack as the latest DLC.

"Sail the intergalactic seas and uncover an all new expansion packed to the gills with new options for new and longtime players alike. The Aquatics Species Pack will rinse Stellaris with a rising tide of new content, including brand new origins, species traits, civics and a treasure trove of new cosmetics. Seafarers and landlubbers alike will agree that this is Stellaris’ most immersive species pack to date.

Just be careful, sailor…legends tell of dragons in these waters…"

That looks great. Has Stellaris become fun yet? Or does it still take forever to get something going just to have nothing to do for the longest time and then start experiencing excessive amounts of micromanaging and insufferable lag?
Clearly it's never been fun at all and all the people with hundreds of hours of play are just a bunch of masochists.

Aquatics, huh? Can you do dolphins? Startide Rising, anyone?

I gave it another go recently using the starnet mod, which seems to fix the AI, and requires you to get something rolling pretty quick or you'll get steamrolled. Didn't see any lag, but then only played small maps.

Just join the Stellaris FB community, I love those posts :)
I play it since its first release, it had its issues in the beginning, but it became one of the best 4X games

I'm one of the masochist with 1,4k hours, looking foward to make the "space aquarium void dweelers with earth slaves" only gameplay :D

Is Starnet fair? I mean, does it give the AI basically free ships and resources like the default AI does, or is it smart enough to actually build and rely on a working economy?

If you play on Ensign difficulty, the AI does not get buffed, and is relatively challenging because the AI will use optimal build orders and prefer tech to go to war within the first 30 years.

I tried a lot also (~60h), I found it fun, but in each of my 3 runs, I went nowhere: i'm literally obliterated by the other civilizations, i don't understand what I should do to develop a durable civilization, how to interact with other civs. I have always fun to explore the galaxy until I find the other civs that block me and don't agree to leave me without conflict making my stuff in my corner of the galaxy...
Too much micromanaging, or I didn't understand the equilibrium to have between all the parameters to manage... I'm manage Civilization series since the first one, but not Stellaris. Probably, I have not enough time to read tutorials or watch videos that would explain a bit the mechanisms of the game, their importance on what and there consequences so I can enjoy it completely (knowing what to do to move where I want with my civ is what I think Stellaris lack - and I have the same feeling about the other paradox games: they lack of tutorials or clarity in their mechanims, except if you like to feel completely lost in front of a complex game)

So I understand (seriously) pcavalcanti post ;)

That actually sounds really annoying. I hate playing my 4X games as insta-wargames when I still have a bunch of exploration to do, much less development. Think I'll skip that mod.
(Plus, it always feels weirdly irrational. I'm thinking to the AI, like, don't you have a planet to colonize or something? Go get the real estate that's free for the taking, why are you bothering someone who will fight for it?! I mean, sure, if you happen to be next to a ravening horde, fair enough, but otherwise . . .)

Anyone tried this already? It replaces pops abstraction with absolute numbers. And removes all performance issues in the process. I want to try it next time I start a game.
