With maps that advance and grow as you play through allowing you to place down more towers and change your tactics, Warstone TD from Battlecruiser Games is now available natively on Linux. The developer said that they're providing a Linux version now as "a lot people asked for it".

One feature that makes it quite interesting is how you place your towers. Initially you're not given a lot of stones to place defence down but more can appear as the level goes on and from defeating enemies, so eventually you get a lot more space to place your towers. There's also a class system to give you new abilities, plus the mission types are varied too that enables you to use other unit types. Quite a lot to like about this one and since release in 2018 it seems to have reviewed well from users on Steam.

I had problem that the game froze when it lose connectivity and it started happening too often, so I stopped playing. Hopefully the linux version will have this sorted out.

I was playing single only, so this really annoyed me. Otherwise the game was really fun and liked to play it.

Yeah, that was one of the pains previously. There were some workarounds, one could delete some file (dll?) and then it worked better.
I tried to play a few games, lost all of them (I didn't play for a while and I am a bit rusty), but it didn't stall. So, the issues are probably sorted out.

Got it for 1€ on some Humble Choice I think and put 60h in. Pretty fun game.

Haven't played a good tower defense game in a while and this one seems like it doesn't have extra fluff.

So need to wait for Kingdom Rush Vengeance to be ported...

Oh, I would not say that. It does the usual stuff, armored enemies, ghosts that can only targeted by magic. Shamans(?), when killed, continue on as ghosts, ... But the placement strategy is interesting. You have slabs and can place them. There you can add your heroes. Slabs can be upgraded for extra range or damage. Also you have spells to nuke/slow enemies.

Then there are levels, where your creatures attack in waves and the enemy defends with towers while you have to defend the other line with towers -> You have to split your money. And then there is a level, where you have only one fighter but it can teleport and has some special tricks like throwing spears or multi-hit-attacks.

In general, it is quite different from the Kingdom Rush series, far harder in my opinion, but with several nice ideas.

The only bad thing IMHO is the multiplayer stuff. You need to play multiplayer games to progress, which is kinda annoying. Especially since there are hardly any players ....

I guess I worded it little bit wrong. I meant games that deviate more from the formula like having controllable character that you have to control in order to place towers and stuff like that. Not that kind of games can't be good, they just don't satisfy the itch same way.

I played Warstone TD for a while and it does feel right so far. In the beginning it does lot of hand holding, so I haven't run into any kind of challenge so far. I haven't been trusted with more than two kinds of units so far.

Town building feels very simplistic, so no wonder there's option to make it automatic.

WHAT? Uhhh if this is true I have to get a refund before playing more :(.

Edit: one review says the multiplayer missions are not mandatory.

It seems, I worded it badly too. You get resources for everything you complete and only if you complete the multiplayer stuff too, you get everything. It's also a bit of a completionist thingy.

It's neat that this has linux support and well worth the low price but I've been playing a lot of Element TD 2 recently and after trying this I have to say that Element is the better game.
