• Half-Life 2 and the episodes get a Beta with Vulkan (DXVK) and more
  • Valve has put up a Beta for Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode One and Half-Life 2: Episode Two as they prepare more of their own games ready for the Steam Deck.
• Fallout 3 removes Games for Windows Live, works well on Linux with Proton
  • Fallout 3 from Bethesda Game Studios received a surprise update recently where the developer finally removed Games for Windows Live which is great news.
• Twitch has suffered a huge leak of source code with a possible Steam competitor (updated)
  • Twitch is not having a good time lately. On top of battling bots engaging in hate-raids spamming chats with horrible things, it appears they've also suffered a massive data breach. UPDATED.
• Little Big Adventure 1 & 2 get open sourced under the GPL
  • Little Big Adventure 1 and 2 are two classic titles originally developed by Adeline Software International and now they've both had their engine source code officially released.
• GTA III & Vice City reverse-engineered code taken down on GitHub again by Take-Two DMCA
  • The saga continues for the GTA III and Vice City code that was reverse engineered and available on GitHub, as it has now been taken down once again from a DMCA request.
• VKD3D-Proton v2.5 is out for Direct3D 12 on top of Vulkan, improving DirectX Raytracing
  • VKD3D-Proton is the project that translates Microsoft's Direct3D 12 to Vulkan, another big part of Steam Play Proton and there's a new release out.
• Brawlhalla to get Easy Anti-Cheat, dev puts up Beta with EAC working on Linux with Proton
  • Blue Mammoth Games announced that later in October that the platform-fighter Brawlhalla will be getting Easy Anti-Cheat. Thankfully, they've put up a Beta for Linux users playing it using Steam Play Proton and it works.
• Proton Experimental sees GreedFall, Eve Online and Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl working
  • Another update to Proton Experimental has landed as of October 11 bringing with it more fixes and even more Windows games are now working on Linux.
• Steam Play tool Luxtorpeda for running games in native Linux engines sees a major upgrade
  • Steam Play allows Linux gamers to use many different compatibility layers like Proton for running Windows games but Luxtorpeda instead makes games use an available native Linux game engine.
• AMD Radeon RX 6600 launches today aimed at high-refresh rates and 1080p
  • AMD has today released the AMD Radeon RX 6600, a new RDNA 2 GPU that has a focus on 1080p as well as high refresh rates.
• 5.8% sales and over 38% of bug reports from Linux said one dev but it's been helpful
  • According to Kodera Software, developer of the space sim ΔV: Rings of Saturn, quite a lot of bug reports come from Linux users considering the smaller share but that's not actually a bad thing.
• NVIDIA 495.44 stable driver is out for Linux, adds in GBM API support
  • Following on from the NVIDIA Beta 495.29.05 earlier this month, today NVIDIA has a fresh 495.44 stable driver release that builds upon it with some additional extras. This is the big one for Wayland fans, since it now works with the GBM API.
• DXVK Native 1.9.2a is out for translating Direct 3D 9 / 10 / 11 to Vulkan for Linux games
  • DXVK Native is the fork of the original translation layer DXVK, the part of Proton that translates Direct 3D 9 / 10 / 11 to Vulkan but this is meant for Linux native builds and a new release is out now.
• PS3 emulator RPCS3 can now boot all games released for the console
  • An incredible milestone for RPCS3, the free and open source cross-platform PlayStation 3 emulator as their compatibility list has hit the ability to boot all known games.
• KDE celebrates 25 years with a big new Plasma desktop release
  • Has it really been 25 years? That's absolute madness. I still remember trying out the first released version of KDE. Plasma - 25th Anniversary Edition is available now.
• Heroes of Might and Magic II game engine recreation fheroes2 v0.9.8 out now
  • Play the classic Heroes of Might and Magic II thanks to fheroes2, a fantastic game engine recreation project allowing you to play it cross-platform and it's open source.
