Ahead of another week of survival, Iron Gate has updated their popular co-op survival game Valheim with a mixture of different improvements but no major changes.
For starters they upgrade the Unity game engine from 2019.4.24f1 to 2019.4.31f1, which was "long-awaited" that should help fix some random crash bugs to do with pathfinding. Hooray for more stability! Additionally the comfort calculation was performance optimized, Mead bases show status effects on tooltip and some localization updates.
Bug fixes include:
- Jack-o-turnip cover offset fixed
- Spirit damage no longer affected by wet
- HP regen on mobs & bosses fix (They were previously regenerating HP faster than intended)
- Tar pits spawn fix (In some edge cases they spawned on the edge between two biomes)
In other news they also added some "discovery music" to areas in Black Forest, and they removed "clutter" from Mistlands so it's now "very empty".
ICYMI - Iron Gate also recently teased out the upcoming Mistlands update for Valheim, plus updates for Mountains.
Looks like the popularity of Valheim is holding pretty stable now at around 30,000 players online each day. The most recent Hearth & Home major update seemed to bring back quite a lot of players.

I recently bought a 5120x1440 superwide screen, which forced me to buy a new graphics card as well (a 6700 XT), but Valheim still barely maintains 60 fps.
Performance tests of that card shows really nice framerates in demanding games like Battlefield 5 for 4K resolution, so a game with graphics like Valheim should run like tuxracer, I would think. Don't get me wrong, I love the game and the graphics, but I can't say (with a straight face) that the fidelity can be compared to BF5, or games like it.
I do however understand that the game is in pre-release mode, and new features and expanded gameplay is more important than optimization at this point.

Are you definitely running it in OpenGL mode? The Vulkan mode is still under development and the performance is terrible. I couldn't believe the difference when I swapped back to OpenGL.

I never even would have thought to try that. Unfortunately for me, Vulkan is much better. This is with a GTX970 though (I really need to upgrade!)

I've tried both and Vulkan gave me a few fps more, at least when I quickly tested the difference. But thanks for the tip, I'll test it out a bit more.
