A whole bunch of games just got Steam Deck Verified

By -

Seems Valve has now properly started verifying games ahead of the Steam Deck launch, with a bunch of titles now verified ready to play so let's take a look. The list can be seen on SteamDB.

The list is expanding, and we expect obviously a great many more to be noted as verified before the Steam Deck begins launching by the end of February.

  1. APE OUT
  2. Aliens: Fireteam Elite
  3. Castle Crashers
  4. Celeste
  5. Circuit Superstars

  8. DARK SOULS™ III
  9. Death's Door
  10. Death Stranding
  11. Dishonored
  12. Final Fantasy
  13. Guacamelee! 2
  14. Gunfire Reborn

  19. Manifold Garden

  38. Webbed

It's a mixture of native Linux games and Windows builds relying on Steam Play Proton. Not being on the list doesn't mean they won't run, as Valve does have very specific criteria that games need to hit to be officially verified. It might be a case of text being too small on the screen stopping them, which no doubt mods will come out to help with that on some games that no longer see developer support.

There's a few games that are already placed into the "Playable" category like War Thunder which has too small text and the launcher being a nuisance, RimWorld needing a manual invoking of the on-screen keyboard for some text input, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt having too small text and so on.

Want to check out the newer Steam store Tablet Mode? It will actually show the Deck Verified symbols and on store pages there's a whole new Steam Deck compatibility section that you can bring up like so:

To do so it's easy enough in Firefox. Simply open a tab with the Steam store and hit CTRL+SHIFT+M. From there you need to add a new device by selecting the dropdown list that will usually say "Responsive" by default. From there hit "Edit list" and set a name of "Steam Deck" (or anything really), set user agent string to "Valve Steam Gamepad" and a resolution of "910 x 568". Then select it after saving, and refresh and you will get the Tablet Mode.

In other news, Valve developer Pierre-Loup Griffais confirmed on Twitter that shipping fees are included in Steam Deck purchases which will hopefully settle a few minds about it.

Not yet. Not really anyway.

Quoting: rustybroomhandleAw Witcher 3, so close. You can do it buddy! Kidding, it's nice that Valve are applying some standards.

I think it's a great way to motivate the devs to push a small update and get that green tick. We'll see how effective it is, though.

Who knows? Maybe with the next gen update (Witcher 3)?

Yes, the rest of the article doesn't say what to do to bring up that information from the webpage, only how to configure a browser to display it.

You're right. I assume it's the blue "Learn more" button under the STEAM DECK COMPATIBILITY header, visible in the background in the top right corner of Liam's shot of the new tablet mode.

i was expecting more triple A games, i wonder if they will update this list daily, weekly or what...

well, those are the ones i care about:

Castle Crashers (finished this eons ago, no surprise here)
Celeste (native, no surprise)
Cuphead (a bit ironic)
" DARK SOULS " 2 and 3 but not the first one? (speaking of it, i wonder why its taking so long for an DS4... maybe their new ip wich is too darksouls like is taking their time.
"Death Stranding" Sony wont make an new PSP/PSV, so the next best thing for sony fans is to get an deck.
its a bit surprising that we can run an game from the last gen home consoles on a portable machine already.
" Final Fantasy" the first one of all things??
"HOT WHEELS UNLEASHED™" i dont hear much about this one on the discussions about racing games, but the company behind it made a lot of games.
"Hollow Knight" native, no surprise.
"Mad Max" ironic, this game used to have an native version
Manifold Garden
"Portal 2" valve game, obligatory
"Psychonauts 2" its owned by MSFT nowadays, so its a bit ironic.
SCARLET NEXUS
Sekiro™: Shadows Die Twice
Tetris® Effect: Connected (im tired of tetris but maybe this spin can be fun again)
The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth
Total War: WARHAMMER II (tons of warhammer games are native, no surprise)
Tunche (wait a hat in time kid is in this one too? why i never heard of it?)

It still does: Feral's licence for WB IP expired. You can still buy it and Steam will install the native version, but the people that did the Linux version won't get paid for it.

Newly added:

Ghostrunner
Hades

Nice to see Aliens: Fireteam Elite on the verified list, I'm wondering though if they also test against some of the reported issues on github. As the game itself runs fine, also when joining a session I had no issues. But when I am the host of the session, it happened annoyingly often that the game froze.
And looks is looks like to be an issue for more than just one game, as I observed this behaviour with GTFO as well. Works great when joining other sessions (mostly hosted on Windows), starts to hang when I am hosting. Not easy to reproduce as it's kinda random, but it definitely happens too often to be just a fluke.

I suspect that particular problem is not going to lead to revocation of verified status. Just doesn't seem to me that Steam Deck is something people will be hosting from much.
