While Discord continues to not support Linux with their official overlay, there is at least Discover, which helpfully gives you some options to show chatters on your screen. Useful for those of you with a single-screen who want to see who is chatting, plus good for videos / livestreams for viewers to see it too.

Discover Overlay v0.4.0 has these improvements and fixes:

  • Added rudimentary support for Gamescope and therefore hopefully the Steamdeck.
  • Added Horizontal & icon only voice layout
  • Added additional launch flags (settings "-c" and debug "--debug")
  • Added settings for enabling/disabling the tray icon (Thanks TastyPi)
  • Added a Gentoo section (Thanks NicolaSmanlotto)
  • Added option to highlight background when user is speaking (Thanks janwojcicki)
  • Fixed crash when user changes avatar
  • Fixed issues with not using a compositor
  • Fixed custom emojis crashing Discover (Thanks Joshix-1)
  • Fixed vertical text centering on the voice overlay (Thanks tyzoid)
  • Fixed app icon and status icon to use the same icon name
  • Fix for displaying RTL correctly implemented
  • Warn if server count is too high and only load some guilds
  • + more bug fixes

Check it out on GitHub.

Quoting: pete910Ah, the discord streaming thingy, Must admit when I've tried it it's always been a bit meh . Not a Nitro member though so low res only.

I don't have nitro either but sometimes use the standard thing to show someone something.

The only issue I have is that it's such a crap res/bit rate, don't really recall if the audio worked for me or not in the past. Having said that, I've not used more than a handful of times. Even my windows mates don't do it that often due to issues.

I just stick to OBS via twitch or YT, Shame as the discord streaming can be handy on occasion.

Quoting: midget_3111it doesn't use NVENC when capturing, so if you're using an Nvidia GPU and try to screenshare it causes everything to stutter.

Get an AMD card for that OSS goodness

Quoting: midget_3111Are you using Wayland or X11? What desktop environment?
If you go into settings, ticking force X shape should help.
X11, LXQt with OpenBox and the Picom compositor (maybe it’s Picom interfering because of the shadows it adds to windows?).

Ahhh yes. Picom has caused issues previously with the way it handles shadows. I think you can add an exemption. See here for more info :) https://github.com/ibhagwan/picom/issues/36#issuecomment-945764078

Was Lucky, Got mine from AMD last Feb foor £600. Which i think even thats over priced

The prices that the AIB's/E-Tailers are charging are just ridiculous, Should all be investigated for profiteering and fined double what their earnings was for the year!
