The free and open source game manager Lutris continues expanding the stores it supports installing games from, with Origin now being added into the mix. Currently Lutris supports installing games (both native Linux builds and Windows games with Wine) for Humble Bundle, GOG, Steam, Epic Games and Emulators so adding Origin sounds like a good idea.
No new release is actually out with it yet, as the code has just been added into the current development area on GitHub. Lead dev Mathieu Comandon teased it on Twitter: "Origin integration for Lutris is now available on the development branch!".

maybe it's a stupid question, but... what exactly does integration mean?
Will it be able to have a single install of origin and launch the various games using game specific configurations?

very great news, that EA Origin is now integrated in lutris. they should also integrate itch.io and Amazon Prime Gaming in the future and also an Steam Deck optimized UI would be fine

I assume this is done similar to the Epic integration where it installs the Origin client in Wine. I've recently tried Origin to try and play Dragon Age Inquisition, which came with Prime. Game itself runs great, but Origin took a few restarts because it simply wouldn't complete its task. May have to give this a try since Prime also gave Star Wars Fallen Order and Squadrons. Seems like EA is trying to pull more people into Origin directly.

The few times I have tried to run Linux as my only gaming platform, it's almost always been Origin that stood in my way. I have high hopes for this to make running Origin games easy.

Would be nice. Now you have to do some fiddling to get your Prime games in the Twitch App. I wonder if there is a know api that can be used for it directly.

There's also a full Flatpak integration in-progress, which I'm super hyped about, though that one isn't done yet. I think it was targeted for 5.10 as well, but it looks like they've moved it down.

Are there any similar apps made with Qt? This modern GTK interface looks completely alien in KDE and I find it very inconvenient as well.

Well it's not among the sources in the current version so probably not. I have though games like Dead Space 3 installed in Lutris and that one opens the Origin Client in order to launch the game so this is probably just to streamline the installation of Origin games somehow.

Installing Origin and the games is one thing, but one feature I really wish they could pull from Origin is the friends list and being able to join a game directly from it. I've many times had the issue that I start a game and then can't join because the Origin overlay doesn't work, and Alt-Tabbing out to join from the friends list doesn't work because either the game or Origin itself freaks out. So my workaround is to never start the game first and always join via the friends list.
So if that could be done directly from Lutris, at least I wouldn't have troubles with the Origin UI when I Alt-Tab out of a game to join a friend. Not sure it can be done technically though since it might just be internal Origin APIs that can't be interfaced easily with from a third-party.

Good question.
It means you can view, install and launch your Origin games directly from Lutris, it will open Origin in the background if the game needs it open, and should shut it down when you exit the game, like it does with Steam.
imho not really a great achievement that you can press install or launch button. I get that you might say there are several platforms in one launcher but in actuality for several of them lutris is just acting as a 'button', at least at the moment. Origin itself is still a complete mess in itself and still needs to be run with the same mouse click you spend on lutris instead, let alone it being your typical bloated 3rd party spyware.
I really think the word 'integration' is being slightly over used here with many of these launchers.

Stellar, hopefully we can get together and make Lutris installers for EA games using the EA App instead of Origin, as it works much better in Wine. I believe using the EA App instead of Origin fixed my BF4 stutter issues.
Try using the EA App instead, I can join my friends and use the overlay in Battlefield 4 using it. Install the EA App in your prefix using a fork such as Wine-GE or Wine-Lutris, and once logged in, you can "migrate" your game by picking its existing install location when "installing" it.

Wish I could use it.

Indeed. I love Lutris, and the work they do, but that Gnome/GTK-style UI feels both cumbersome and a hassle to use.

ha, EA seems to have just given up on Origin, and let people buy games with it through Steam, like most of Ubisoft's games are as well. They (Ubisoft) does seem to still have a time limit before their games go onto Steam though.

I think that's the last one that GOG Galaxy has that Lutris doesn't? I still find it silly that GOG supports the Mac with Galaxy, yet I'm fairly certain I have more games supported on Linux on GOG than I do Mac games (though part of that is due to the two things; 1) I have an m1 Mac. 2) Apple dropping 32bit support.)
