VR rhythm game Groove Gunner from BitCutter Studios Inc will be leaving Early Access on February 10. If you own a VR kit, this is one you need to try. It will make you sweat - probably a lot.

Much like other rhythm games, it's all about speed and accuracy. Instead of cutting through blocks like you do in Beat Saber, you have two coloured guns which you use to shoot and each arm also has a shield that you need to block incoming projectiles with. It's very different to any other rhythm game and easily stands above some other attempts to make a VR game.

Combining together the need for speed, accuracy and some serious hand-eye coordination it will be a true test of your skill. It has some pretty great tunes included too and last month the developer added in features to enable custom tracks  with the in-game custom song browser and editor.

The included music is all from independent artists. With this the developer went for what they say is a "unique approach", so rather than going with traditional licensing models the result you get is a thoroughly strange (but great) mix between pop and electronic music interspersed with metal, hip hop, rock, and more.

Check it out on Steam.

With this being one of the few native VR games, every Linux VR player should own it. But I may be slightly biased because I also love the game.

Compared to other VR rhythm games I would say this one is less fatiguing. It also requires more practice per song because the variation is much bigger and with this game using a larger part of your field of view, you're less likely to do well based on just visual cues. To get through the songs without errors, you'll need to do a bit of learning on higher difficulties. And on "executioner" level you need god tier speed and accuracy to get top scores. That last part I still struggle with since I'm more of an either one, but not both kinda person. Plus my timing is... not great.

This is an absolute gem, ngl. Everyone on Linux with a VR set should own it, no question. Just don't allow Ehvis into your friends list... it's depressing.

Groove Gunner combines rhythm shooting (like Audica) and hitting projectiles (like Synth Riders).
Constantly switching between both is challenging, at least for me... Guess I cannot multitask and therefore must be male.

Great that Groove Gunner has SteamOS + Linux support. Most VR games forget that important feature. :)

Me 48.2 hours, you 3.6 hours. I think we can see the real problem here.
