Splitgate, the free to play first-person shooter with portals has a big upgrade out now with the start of the first official Beta Season.

This big new update has been in the works for a while, to officially bring an in-game map editor you can make with other players. This gives you full control over everything too like walls, floors, ceilings, weapon pads, objectives and much more. A new official map Hotel, plus an overhaul to the map Foregone Destruction has landed, a new Battle Pass, and there's even two new game modes:

  • One Flag: Teams take turns defending and attacking the flag every other round
  • Evolution: Variation of Showdown. Round based with a set weapon loadout, first to 6 points wins. Loadout improves the next round if that team loses.

The portal walls have a new texture / effect, UI changes and various bug fixes. Check out the new trailer:

I like the game, and I enjoy it playing with my friends, although it has an overall aura of "something is off" in my opinion, and I got two bugs so far (haven't reported them yet...):
* No in-game voice chat (so can't hear or talk to randos)
* Sometimes the mouse seems to shift and to click menu I've to "aim" slight off (higher from what I actually want to click)

But even with that it's a pretty decent fast-paced shooter, jump in do some frags and quit, which sometimes is all you want (or can) do :D

Just uninstalled it 2 days ago.
Apart from the awful UI, what I don't like in this game is that the hit boxes are often way off and portals are not see thru (I mean both ways) so sometimes the game is just spawn killing for 5 minutes.

Splitgate is a ton of fun, I just find myself aggressively offput by the menu feeling like some mobile game that just wants my money.

I also wish there was a setting to disable skins, so everyone was just red and blue armored dudes with non-pink/lime/whatever guns. I know they are small gripes overall, but definitely keeps me from playing at all

This fills the CoD gap on Linux quite nicely for myself and my friends. The fact that it natively supports linux is amazing, and the much faster game load is the icing on the cake. It's my new favorite game of this genre.

My only gripe with the game is that the starting UI (main menu) is very busy, especially when you first start playing. It definitely takes a while to get used to.

I can definitely see through a portal both ways, as long as it's one I placed or that a teammate placed. Are you sure you're not looking through an enemy portal? You can't see through those (that's a feature, not a bug). If you don't like the enemy portal being there, you can destroy it with a portal grenade

I personally love Splitgate, especially with friends dominating in Club Silo (Swordbase for Halo Reach Players).

Yes I know it's by design, but for example in the map with the cascade and beaches (I don't remember its name) if a portal is put in a very high panel you cannot reach it with a grenade and it is extremely hard to reach the other end so most of the time it is an instant death when you try to leave your spawn.
After 35h, it's just not a fun game for me.
