The developer of Vampire Survivors, an absolute smash-hit on Steam has confirmed that a Linux version is in the works. Their latest update post mentioned it might be available by the end of the month, if all goes well.

Developed by poncle, it arrived on Steam in Early Access for Windows on December 17 - 2021 and suddenly on January 6 - 2022 it starting gathering thousands of players. More arrived each day, and this game of complete chaos suddenly managed to be a total hit with an all-time peak player count of 37,075 and that was only hit yesterday so it's continuing to grow all the time. On Steam, it's managed to hit an Overwhelmingly Positive rating too.

What is it? A "time survival" game. All you do is run around and try to survive as long as possible, before you inevitably die at some point. Simple gameplay that appears to offer that "just one more run" type of deal.

In regards to it coming officially to Linux, the developer mentioned they're "aiming for Mac and Linux builds by the end of the month" and that an "engine-port project is running in parallel with the development of the current Steam version of the game, so to ease porting to other platforms and ensuring maximum compatibility with the Steam Deck".

Only 2,39€, and you can test (a full but unupdated version for a long time ago) here : https://poncle.itch.io/vampire-survivors

On paid version, you have one more level, bug fixes, new loots etc etc...

EDIT:

If you dont want to wait, it works very well under Proton 6.3-8 with the following startup command: PROTON_LOG=1 %command%

EDIT 31/02/2022:

No Linux build for now, but in the news of 30/01/2022, we could see:

"""
Mac and Linux builds
They're currently being QAd, so please expect them to drop sometime soon!

Steam Deck
Yes ✔
"""
.

In the last news from 05/02/2022:

"Linux version
Still having some trouble with the native version, should hopefully need just a couple more days, but I said the same thing last week so... "

(but the MAC version is out now, so we could be confident).

Oh! I was watching someone play that last week, it looks like an absolute blast.

I heard they added new evolutions recently, so it'd be a great time to get on board if a port comes out.

Wow, the browser version really doesn't work for me. Incredibly slow and I can only attack in two directions. No real indication of how the controls work.

So the title is "Vampire Survivors". So, are you a vampire trying to survive a zombie apocalypse, or just a person trying to survive vampires?

I will buy when release on linux and Steam deck for sure!

Is Legend of Keepers (and it's last dlc don't feed the troll) officially announced on steam deck? This type of "small" game perfect for a mobil/bed gaming.

The latter. Basically think if Castlevania was a twin-stick shooter.

It gets very silly towards the last five minutes or so (runs are max 20 minutes long, then you die).

Awww.

I've seen fiction about the other thing. It's actually pretty tough for a vampire in the zombie apocalypse, not so much because the zombies are that much of a threat to you, but the buggers are undrinkable. So you have to try to preserve the humans--if you don't, you'll starve. And if you don't have many humans available, and the zombies push you to a lot of powerhungry vampire stunts, you could find yourself forced to drain people dead, and that's a downward spiral.
On the other hand, the humans don't like or trust you, so you have problems from that side too. All in all, I think it could make for a fun game.

That's the first character and the first weapon (the requisite whip), you get more very quickly. The Steam version works well with the GloriousEggroll Proton build.

The game also apparently owes a big debt to "Magic Survival" but I don't have an Android phone.

If y'all have any interest at all in casual arcadey Ultratron-style games you absolutely have to get this; January 6 is when the game got covered by a couple gaming youtubers (Splattercat and Wanderbots, at least). I bought it Jan 6 and I've put a lot of time into it since; I'll play it while listening to youtube or a podcast. It's huge value for money, highly recommended.

EDIT: fair warning though I do occasionally get some brutal frame slowdowns that disappear after picking up a chest, then slowly return. Not sure what's going on there.
